Dear Drysc,

You failed to add Zuluhed to the recommended realms. This leaves me with one question:

wtf?

We chose a cut off point to focus on a smaller group of realms, and the realms we're focusing on all have less players than Zuluhed. Maybe next time.

Not as much as those we have marked as recommended.

Is Drysc right though in say that Zuluhed is smaller?

The numbers on that website you're referencing are total character's created and reported to the site, not active players every night, which is what we look at. It's extremely possible that there were either a lot more players on Azuremyst at one time, or just simply more 'character's created', which really has nothing to do with actual player population.

For the past month Azuremyst has been approximately 35% full on average nightly peak, and Zuluhed has been approximately 45% full on average nightly peak.

We took the lowest populated realms, and are using those as are newest group of recommended realms. Once they all get some players on them we'll move on to another group made up of the lowest populated realms, mark them as recommended, and get some more players headed their way. So on an so forth.

Merge some realms if you this many realms with problems. A few noobies rolling level 20's than canceling their accounts isn't a fix.

We've been tracking fall off and the staying rate of players on the realms that have since been removed from recommended, and the amount of players staying is actually extremely high. There's definitely going to be some amount of players rolling and leaving, but we're tracking that statistic and so far we've been extremely pleased with the results.

We really don't have any realms that have a population that is so low as to warrant any other measures. Marking them as recommended and encouraging players there has been very successful, and within a short amount of time a large, self-sustaining community is created.

We would offer free transfers long before even thinking about merging realms, and at this time we don't see any need for free transfers. That of course is subject to change depending on how the recommended tags, etc. work out for each realm. So far it's been working quite well, so I don't think we're expecting to have to move to other means.

I love how since TBC release talk of splitting realms is non existant. What's wrong guys? People leaving the game in droves?

We're still seeing a steady increase actually, but the free transfers and indication of possible realm splits (which never actually happened) was mostly to get the realms as even as possible before the expansion released to bypass any huge issues of overcrowded realms. In addition the overall max player population cap was raised to accommodate for the additional land mass (Outland), and because we actually could, as we had finished our hardware retrofits across all realms to support it.

It's popular to hate what's popular though, right? I remember those years. You grow out of it. For better or worse.

read : we don't have any real answers for dieng / unbalanced servers so we threw up an incomplete list to make it look like we are doing something about it.

Seeing as this is the same practice we've executed for months and that there are tangible results, I'd say your "interpretation" is deeply flawed.

Mkay, denial is cool too. Maybe you don't even know. Maybe my sources are liars; shrug.

Hrm, well if I wanted to deny something I would just not reply. :)

Q u o t e:
By the way, will you be @ Blizzcon?

Would like to shake the hand of your witty self.

Indeed we will. Hope to see you there, should be a fun time.
