I don't know if there's something wrong or if I'm just stupid (always a possibility) and just have to implement some feature manually if I ever figure out how, but I just have a black silhouette where my lovely bovine face is supposed to be. Is there a way to correct this?

Log in and out of the game. :D

This is correct, as it will allow your character model to render for the site. We'll be putting some more information together about this soon. ;)
