Error 202... still...

You guys have an issue with your online account system over the weekend and today.

When I attempt to upgrade an account, I am getting an "Error 202" message which tells me to contact customer service. I have done so... and they tell me that for security measures, my Visa would provide some security measures especially on internet purchases.

Fair enough. They must have locked my Visa, right?

Wrong.

So I had already through of that one and previously contacted Visa on Saturday as I was having this issue all weekend. Even thinking it had something to do with having the same email, I had created a whole new account in her email using a completely different Visa card. (Not a linked VIsa account, it's a compeltely seperate card with a different limit on it.)

So this time I contact Visa after being told the lock is likely on their end... and I am being told by Visa, and I quote: ".... not to call anyone a liar... I know what internet security he was refering to, and I would be able to see any attempts made on your card."

So basically, had your system actually "made an attempt" at my Visa card and was rejected, Visa can see that attempt. None was even made even though the agent had attempted not even 10 mins earlier.

So there is an issue on your end with upgrading Trial accounts to "real" accounts.

But I also wanted to make sure this was addressed for others running into this error. Their (Blizzard) system is broken right now, and I just wanted them to know about it.

I'm sorry, Albertabeef, but the system isn't broken. It is possible that the person you spoke with in Billing misunderstood the issue and thought it was directly related to your credit card company.

It is very likely that security measures are involved here, Albertabeef, but it may not be with Visa. Please understand that online purchases, which is what an online upgrade is considered, has a higher level of security than simply paying for a subscription.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused though, if your transaction is unable to process and our Billing Department is unable to assist you I'm afraid the only other option is to purchase a box version of the game at a retail store or online vendor.

Albertabeef,

I have a friend online right now who has the EXACT same error as you...he tried paying with mastercard and he's getting error 202.

Hopefully someone fixes it, cause he was going to start playing WOW tonight but now doesn't look so good....

Or your friend can do what is recommended in that message and contact our Billing Department for assistance. Or he can purchase a retail box version of the game.

Look folks, I'm sorry you are experiencing an issue but the system is not broken, it is not completely transparent to you why you are receiving the error but that doesn't make it broken.

You can call 1 (800) 592 5499 (1-800-59-BLIZZARD) Monday through Friday 8AM-8PM (PDT) for live representation.
Australian users should please call 1-800-041-378 if the standard 800 line does not work.
