I have a lvl 60 mage on Blackrock with a Ð in his name. I was running an instance and some Shaman ninjad a cloth piece. He was kicked out of the group for it and having made me justifiably angry i gave him a piece of my mind. He then reported me for the Ð in my name. About 30 mins later im running another instance when a Blizz rep msgs me saying i have to change the name. Now theres a couple of issues i have with this. One, i've leveled that character to 60 without anyone having a problem with my name. I tried to make the name using a proper D but it wouldnt let me so i resorted to the special character. The fact that i get doubly punished for losing a cloth piece to a ninja and then have to change my name because he *%@@@es to you guys about it is unfair. Two, of all the moments you make me change the name it had to be when im in an instance group, inconveniencing not only me but my entire party as well. Not to mention the fact that the Blizz rep messages large chunks of text without giving me time to read or respond to them before kicking me out of the game. Very rude. You guys should at least be patient and allow me time to read what youre trying to tell me. Not only that but do it at a more convenient time. gg Blizz, im starting to lose my respect for you noobs!

First, let's revisit our Naming Policy:
http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01722p

Q u o t e:
Inappropriate
This category includes both clear and masked names which:

* Are mildly inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions
* Consist of any alphanumeric character not normally found on a standard 101/102 key keyboard (O§iri§, Ÿelena, Jašon; Does not apply to Guild, Arena Team or Pet Names unless used to impersonate an existing guild or arena team, or could be considered pure gibberish.)
* Are references to illegal drugs or activities
* Have neutral or positive racial/ethnic/national connotations
* Have neutral or positive connotations of major religions or religious figures (i.e. Jesus, Christianity, Buddha)
* Include names of World of Warcraft realms, zones, or names of major characters from Warcraft lore
* Are otherwise considered inappropriate for the game world

That aside, let's review your concerns.

We do not actively police realms; this has been reiterated multiple times. Thus, the length of time you've had your name, Ðimebag, does not relate to its validity, as we will only become aware of these violations if a report is first received.

On a similar note, simply because the name you wanted was taken does not permit you to use illegal characters, nor does it absolve you of a violation if you are then reported. There are many names from which to choose; you did not need to use an ASCII character.

As for how fair our policies are? This is something which can be discussed on our Suggestions Forum, found here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=11122&sid=1

When naming violations are discovered, it is imperative that these violations be addressed immediately. With this, in order for a name change to properly occur, a player must log out and log back in. If you couple these two facts together, it is easy to see why the Game Master staff may remove players with inappropriate names from the game rather quickly.

To reiterate, the purpose is two-fold: it ensures that the name in violation can no longer be witnessed in-game and it guarantees that a name change will occur almost instantly.

While I do apologize for the inconvenience this may cause on the whole, and for whatever inconvenience you personally suffered, it is important to realize that a violation has taken place, and that it continues to take place so long as the name is in use. We Game Masters need to make sure that the name is removed from the game, and the most efficient way to do so is to manually bring players back to the log in screen.

If you feel as though the Game Master with which you corresponded could have handled the situation a bit differently, I would sincerely encourage you to email [email protected], as this address is reviewed by management.

Additionally, if you would like to dispute the name change, you may contact Account Administration. To do this, simply reply to the notification email sent to your registered address or proactively email [email protected].

Is the pertinent issue here the aformentioned naming violation or the fact that a member of your party received an item which you feel was not deserved?

Regardless of which concern is of more value to you, Ðimebag, there is no need to point fingers or adopt an unfriendly attitude. This applies for everyone participating in this thread.

Q u o t e:
Both.

I've already addressed your primary concerns regarding the name change; I don't believe there's a need to reiterate the matter, not at this juncture. I will note, however, that your name is in violation due to the inclusion of an ASCII character and not the debated "drug reference."

To briefly discuss the looting situation, I'll start with a quote from our Scam Policy:
http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/?id=agm01726p

Q u o t e:
-I grouped with a "ninja-looter," can I get the item that I am entitled to returned?

Players that loot an item out of turn or against the group's wishes do not fit in the criteria of a scammer, and will not be investigated by the GM Staff.

As looting rules within a party can be established by the Group Leader--and, moreover, as joining a party is viewed as a means of agreeing to the looting rules in place--the actions taken by the referenced shaman is perfectly acceptable. I apologize if you feel differently.

Q u o t e:
If youre going to tell me to behave you might wanna tell most of the people who post in wow forums to behave.

I believe I extended the warning to everyone in this thread; not just you. Since this warning could not be heeded, I'll be locking this thread. Defamatory language is not appreciated nor will it be tolerated.
