1) I decided to make a new guild for funzies.
2) In an effort to not choose a name that is already taken I decide to test if I am able to purchase a guild charter with a name I know is taken.
3) It won't let me purchase a charter with an already taken name. (Resulting in the error, a guild with that name already exists).
4) I settle on a name that it allows me to purchase and I go about getting my signatures.
5) When I attempt to turn in the aforementioned charter I receive the error, "A guild with that name already exists."
6) Given my initial tests showing that it won't allow me to purchase a guild charter with a name that is already taken I try to see if someone snuck in under my nose and simply registered the guild name soon before me.
7) I log into an alt and try to purchase a charter with the name. It allows me to do so.
I read up on it a bit and it seems like these things have a tendency to get bugged. I petitioned a GM in-game, but was unfortunately afk when they contacted me. The email I received basically said, "if it says you can't use that name you can't use that name, idiot."
So... assuming thats correct I would like an understanding of how this whole system works as to avoid the issue in the future.
-I know it won't let me purchase a charter of a guild name that is already taken (I tried it with multiple guilds that I knew existed).
-It let me purchase a charter for a guild.
-When trying to register it said, "a guild with that name already exists".
What uh... what's going on here?
The guild name I'm looking at is "Havoc" on the Frostwolf server.
