Grant-a-level issues

I recruited a friend and we both created new characters on a new server. We're both level 6. I then created a new character on the same server and faction and invited the recruit to a party with me. He said that when he right clicks my name to grant me a level, it's grayed out. Why is that? Does my new character have to be grouped with the recruit when he levels in order to grant a level?

My new character is obviously level 1, so he should be able to receive levels from the recruit.

A character on the recruit account can grant levels to a character on the linked veteran account.
For every two levels the recruit character has gained as a "linked" account character, he can grant one level.
He can only grant it to a character lower than himself.
The characters must be on same faction and on same server.
You cannot grant levels above 60.

Grunkag is correct!

In addition, and this is important:

Transferring a character (between accounts or realms) will wipe all the stored levels that character has accrued, and its ability to grant them.

You need to use them on the same realm, from the same account, and for a character on the veteran account which is of the same faction.

Malkorix, I love the quote in your signature. :)

Why thank you =).

I happen to have a great deal of personal admiration for Neil Gaiman's work.

So do the grant a level levels actually disappear if you hit 60?

Yep, that's the story so far.

Can the veteran account grant levels to the recruit account to help them catch up? I have the option to "grant a level" but its grayed out so far (we just logged in, it will take me a while to level a few times to test it out).

No, only the recruited account has that ability.

This information has been updated in the FAQ on the support site as well as the FAQ stickied at the top of the page.

The first level you will be able to grant a level to someone else is level 3, that means that a level 60 character can grant only 29 levels, not 30.

They also will not lose the levels they can grant when they reach level 60. The recruited account will lose them when the 90 days of the RaF bonuses expire though so use them on characters on the veteran account before that happens.
