Recruit a Friend 3x Experience Question

To get the 3x experience do I have to just be in a party with the friend I recruited, or do I have to be in the same zone as he is. (Still being in the party of coarse.)

Triple experience requisites:

    Rule 1) Veteran and recruit character must partied and within 100 yards of one another
    Rule 2) Mobs killed and quests completed must be marked neither "Low Level" nor gray in difficulty for either the veteran or the recruit character
    Rule 3) Should one character be more than 4 levels higher than the other, only the lower level character will receive the experience boost. Rule 2 still applies.

The inherent rule not mentioned is that accounts must be linked in order to qualify, and, in order to create an account link, an existing WoW account owner needs to refer a friend or family member by issuing an invitation. When this invitation is used to create a new account, a 90 day link forms and grants specific benefits to characters on the veteran (recruiter) and recruit account. Invitations may not be issued to preexisting accounts.
