Posting for a friend who's not currently subscribed --

Lets say for example something happened and the internets found out your WoW account login name (but not your password) -- maybe, for example, you posted a screenshot of the login screen with your account name filled in on some website? And now for security purposes you'd really prefer that the internet didn't know your account name, but of course what's done is done, and anonymous will never forget nor forgive what has happened. Especially the fact that your account name is 'iliveinmymomsbasement' or something like that (it's not actually, fictional example!).

Is it possible to get your account name changed? I know that impossible is nothing but I don't know if Blizzard has any mechanism in place to handle such a request.

I did a cursory search of the support KB and didn't find anything.

Thanks!

No, Skidder, the account name is a permanent part of the account. Your friend should make sure their password can't be easily guessed as a normal security procedure but in most cases if someone is going to compromise an account will usually go for the easy mark instead.

If they are concerned about their account security they could pick up one of our Authenticators when they are back in stock, check the Blizzard Store.

Thanks, it's what he thought.

His account is cancelled right now, but when WotLK hits he's going to get an authenticator (if they ever get back in stock!)

Make sure he takes the proper security measures, I would hate for him to return when the expansion is released to find someone else has been mucking around with the account.

Secure the computer, change the password, make sure that registered e-mail address is correct.
