Why don't YOU use the LFG tool?

For me, the only thing that I wish could be added to the LFG tool was some sort of advanced filtering when auto-invite is activated. There's nothing more frustrating than needing a tank and having a rogue fill the slot. I get around this by disabling auto-invite and just hand selecting. I've noticed though that not everybody uses the tool, and I can't help but wonder why? I sometimes have more success just spamming the /who list.

Why don't YOU use LFG?

An upcoming patch will introduce some nifty new features for the LFG system, which should help players out when looking to complete group quests and form parties for dungeon runs. Currently, I do use the system very often, as I've been doing pick-up-groups almost exclusively.

Even did a pick up Karazahn run the other day. ;)

Excellent!

By the way, congratulations on your position at the Stormspire Inn, do they pay well?

Unfortunately not, but I do get free diamond berries. :)

but was it successful?

Just because a PUG corals some people to run an instance doesn't mean you'll go anywhere.

I've acquired 4/5 of my heroic keys, my Karazahn key, 5/5 of my Hallowed Raiment set and have completed two heroic dungeons all with successful pick-up-groups. Sure, I've had my share of PUGs that didn't turn out well, but on a long enough time that's bound to happen.

You can choose to believe it or not. I have in-fact almost exclusively done pick-up-groups with my current character at level 70. It's not that hard to get a group going but sometimes you do need to be aggressive. I've seen so many people simply join the LFG queue and do nothing else in regards to finding more members. My goal is to get a group going immediately (wasting time standing in Shattrath just isn't that much fun). While getting a group formed begins with the LFG system, it often involves whispering others who are idle in the city, seeking out names of those I've PUG'd with before, or calling out in general for more members.

The upcoming additional improvements to the system will be very helpful, but in the meantime, there are ways to optimize your group forming approach.

Aaaaand THAT'S where I call bull!#@*.

Skeptical bunch, aren't we? None of us had been before, and we downed Attumen the Huntsman on our second try. Not too shabby in my opinion. We couldn't kill Moroes, unfortunately. :*(

That means you aren't using the tool to build your groups.

Nice spin though.

I personally don't like it when people whisper me that I don't know.

I am using the tool. I'm just not relying on it as if it were the only means available to me for building a group. Players who take advantage of all available systems will often be more advantageous in completing their goals.

You should avoid playing online games if interaction with strangers is bothersome...

That last part, I have no problems with strangers. I have problems with them msging me out of the blue when I didn't want their advertisement in a personal msg.

You know how much it pisses you off when you get gold spam advertised to you? I put LFG requests directly msged to me from people I don't know one notch below that.

Go figure.

If someone is offended when I whisper them, "would you like to run Arcatraz?" I can't help but not feel responsible for their pain...

No. You have insinuated the LFG tool is fine by stating in one post all of your supposed group accomplishments using it.

You've then gone on to post that the LFG tool is only a small part of your ability to form successful groups. This thread is about the LFG tool and why it is not being used. You, ironically, have just proved that with your own words. If you had been able to use the LFG tool as the primary group source, it's unlikely you wouldv'e needed to "cold call" people to complete your group.

Also, I'd like to note that your main is a primary healing class. My own experience, as a warlock, has shown that joining the LFG tool has resulted in a sometimes endless wait before the LFG tool adds a healing class, of any type, to the group.

Have you tried using the LFG tool with any other class besides priest? Do you have any qualitative analysis using the LFG tool as the primary group source?

You should avoid posting if you can't handle the constructive comments of your customers.

If I was insinuating it was fine, I'd not be stating that further improvements are coming. I'm stating that as it stands, players can gain much more out of the system than is often credited. Also, players who are more aggressive in building a group and take advantage of all options available will have more success.

I'll commonly put myself in LFG and and check the 'Looking For More' sections for other groups looking for the same things and whisper them, if nothing happens within five to ten minutes or so (or depending on how patient I am) I'll ask in General and/or the LFG channel (which still flourishes on most realms I think). I've found quite a few groups purely through the LFG tool though. There's definitely some improvements I would like to see for the tool, being a user of it, and everything I've thought of so far that would help me personally is either already in development or in some planning stage. The tool isn't perfect, but it does work, or has for me at least, and with the improvements that we're planning I only see myself using it more exclusively. As the improvements move closer towards implementation, as the reintroduction of the LFG channel has, we'll keep you informed.
