I cannot create new characters on any realm, despite the fact that I went and deleted about 10-15 alts. What gives?

I am sorry to say that this is a known issue that occurs for some players. It can sometimes be resolved by deleting a few characters to make sure you have room. Ultimately it may require waiting until the database has updated the character list.

I am sorry to say that our Game Masters nor our Technical Support Team has any influence here, the database normally updated during our maintenance period.

As I said, Templaress, this is a known issue and we are working to resolve it. This is purely a database issue and Game Masters are not able to assist I am sorry.

I should mention that it appears that you currently have 50 characters on your account. You might want to check the following realms and clear some out.

Spirestone, Frostmane, Bonechewer, Shadowsong, Proudmoore, Frostwolf, Ner'zhul, Blackrock, Aegwynn, Akama, Thorium Brotherhood, Stormscale, Dunemaul, Bloodscalp, Perenolde, Argent Dawn, Earthen Ring, Lightbringer, Hyjal, Altar of Storms, Lethon, Steamwheedle Cartel, Archimonde, Haomarush, Black Dragonflight, Andorhal, Alexstrasza, Balnazzar.

I'm afraid not, Imakefood, I am sorry.

Drcrome, I show the last character you created was on the 4th of this month. As soon as I have an update on the issue I will relay it. Unfortunately we have no manual way to force the database to update.

Q u o t e:
It's been just about a month for me, looks like my original post that was dated Feb 28th was deleted it's not in my post record like it was earlier today.
So thats 3 Tuesday cycles that I've gone though and no character data update. =(

Cornfed, it looks like you are well over the 50 character limit, until you actually delete some characters it won't matter how many maintenance periods you wait through.

Some realms you might want to check out:

Draenor, Uldum, Bronzebeard, Shadow Council, Scarlert Crusade, Kilrogg, Khaz'goroth, Spinebreaker, Alleria, Moon Guard, Shu'halo, Azshara, Kalecgos.

I don't think you are understanding the issue here that some of us are experiencing. (Unfortunately I'm new to this club.) Your servers/databases/whatever thinks we have >50 characters. We have <<50 that we can log into. I myself have many realms where it says I have 1 character on the realm selection screen, but when I log into that realm... there are no characters. Also, before around March 20, for me, I did not see these phantom characters on the realm selection screen.

I understand perfectly, Cajun, that is why I specifically said Cornfed's name.

You're issue is that the database has not updated yet to reflect that you have less then 50 characters which is preventing your from creating a new character.

It looks like you have 55 characters on your account, Brightstar.

You'll want to check the following realms:

Shadow Council, Scarlet Crusade, Bonechewer, Feathermoon, Argent Dawn, Zul'jin, Medivh, Elune, Earthen Ring, Silver Hand, Aman'Thul, Khaz'goroth, Vek'nilash, Sen'jin, Alexstrasza, Kirin Tor, Aegwynn, Akama, Draka, Khaz Modan, Jubei'Thos, Kul Tiras, Malorne, Rexxar, Terokkar, Velen, Antonidas, Shandris, Quel'dorei, Mok'Nathal, Cenarion Circle, Bladefist, Uldaman, Anvilmar, Duskwood, Norgannon, Anetheron, Turalyon, Ysera, Dalaran, Moonrunner, Greymane, Malfurion.

You may need to wait until the maintenance period for the database to have a change to update but at least you will be under the limit then. :)

Brightstar, I can only guess but I believe that the reason you were able to make more then 50 is probably the same reason that prevents some people from making a new character now. The database needs to update.

Say you had 49 characters already created and you go on a character creation spree and make 10 more, the database may not update right away which would not catch that you exceeded the limit. After the database updated it would register that you had 50+ and would not permit you to create more. This is only a educated guess though. :)

Nimos, you seem to be well under the limit so it is possible that the database has not updated for you. :( Hopefully it will do so this next maintenance period.

Adumbrae, it looks like you are over the limit and should look on the following realms. :)

Frostmane, Nathrezim, Illidan, Stormreaver, Alexstrasza, Kirin Tor, Spinebreaker, Kalecgos, Ursin, Dark Iron, Nazjatar, Mal'Ganis, Archimonde, Ysondre, Kel'Thuzad, Uther, Coilfang, Aegwynn, Khaz Modan, Korgath, Kul Tiras, Thorium Brotherhood, Silver Hand and Perenolde.

Why do i get spammed by a bunch of chinese farmers telling me i can buy gold at whateversitenametheyusenow.com if its a database problem?

A person sending you a whisper has absolutely nothing to do with the database needing to update before you will be able to create a new character once you have reduced the number of characters you have on the account.

I'm not even sure how that was tied in at all.

I'm afraid you are correct, Bejeezus, but we have heard from our technicians and they believe they may have found the issue and are working on a resolution. Although I can not provide a time frame on when this may be completed they are making headway.

I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience, Unclecurt and Ekko, our technicians have been working on this issue and we had hoped that it was resolved. I have forwarded your information to them for further investigation.

Has anyone who had this issue been able to create new characters yet?

Edit: Unclecurt and Ekko could you try creating a character once more and let me know if you are successful?

This has been an issue that our Database Administrators have been working on for awhile, I don't know what they did to resolve it but I'm very happy to hear that it has worked for at least some of you.

I'm certain they will be very happy that I won't be nagging them anymore about it. :D

Such an old thread. :)

Cajun, so you know, you may only have 50 characters max on an account. Sometimes it may take until maintenance for the database to update, if you continue to experience this issue and have checked all realms for extraneous characters that you may not remember creating, please submit an in-game petition.

One of our Game Masters will be able to forward your issue for possible resolution so you can create characters once more.
