Defense 490??

Okay.. I read the formulas.. and what I've found is my defense soaring above 500 pretty easy. According to what I've read from wowwikki and such and all my MT experience it seems that 490 is really the cap you need to push crits off the table (again making an assumption that there aren't bosses over level 73 as the bosses were only level 63 before) and after that you should be seeking Armor+parry+dodge+hp (not specifically in that order). Yes I know defense can raise those stats.. but generally not as much as if you seek out the stats in a stand alone fashion. Anyone care to refute this or show me where my logic is flawed? I want to make sure before I start selecting and sorting the gear in my bank. Thank you for your time.

Tyreck, you aren't off the mark in your research. At 490 defense, the math caps out. Defense won't mitigate beyond that.

Now, the math could be interpreted a few ways. A couple of those ways are:
  • Defense is worthless after a certain number.
  • I only have to gear that much into defense, which allows more choice from other stats.

You could agree with one or the other; both or neither.

edit - good discussion point, by the way

Q u o t e:
Defense isnt worthless after 490, it just doesnt help with crits anymore from a lvl 73 mob at that point.

In the event of an increased level cap, sure.

And we all know that'll never happen, right?
