I was talking to a GM about redoing my tailor specilization quest you get a 350. He told me there is a way to pay some gold in game to change your tailoring specilization ex change from primal mooncloth to spellcloth. He gave me a link to a forum which had info on it, but i wrote it down wrong and cant find any info on this topic.

If anybody knows how, or knows the thread with the right info please help me. im a lock that mistakenly specilized in primal mooncloth by accident... HELP ME :)

Hello Vagetarian,

Tailoring specializations are considered important and rather permanent choices and hence the * WARNING * statement present on each of the tailoring specialization quests. However all is not lost. There is indeed an in-game system to allow a player to change specializations if they must. Needless to say this path is relatively intensive to prevent frequent switching between these cloth specializations. In this case you are required to abandon tailoring and work it back up to 350 once again. Upon reaching 350 skill, previously specialized tailors can now talk with the new tailoring specialization NPC of choice and agree to pay a 20 gold fee in order to take up this different specialization. I wish you the best with whatever you decide to do.

Hi Icedeath,

The situations are indeed rather different. Tailoring - much like engineering - requires the player to abandon the skill and retrain it up again if they wish to change specializations. Blacksmithing is indeed dissimilar to this. From the World of Warcraft website you can see the given motivation for this:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/professions.html

The most exciting innovation in blacksmithing will be the ability for blacksmith players to make epic quality items that only they can wield. A master swordsmith will be able to forge a special sword for him(or her)self, and a suit of epic armor awaits the master armorsmith. The smith will be able to upgrade these special items, so they will always be a solid item for the smith to wear or wield no matter what stage of the game he or she is in. To allow everyone to take advantage of this, blacksmith specialists will be allowed to change their focus in The Burning Crusade.

While in the case of tailoring or engineering the desire for a specialization change comes about from a change of heart or mistake in choice by the player, the blacksmithing profession has recently been fully revamped and the original reasons for choosing a blacksmithing specialization has changed. All the items that were once armorsmith or weaponsmith specific for crafting are no longer so - and thus players' original motivation for selection might have been removed.

I do understand your desire for this tailoring specialization change to be easier and if you want the developers to re-look into the "limitations" for switching back and forth you will need to detail your reasoning in a new post on the Suggestions Forum. This forum can be found at:

Q u o t e:
I have spoken with two in-game GMs tonight who both assured me there was an NPC currently in-game with whom I could speak to in order to unlearn my specialty but retain my current skill level in tailoring.

I'm not sure if this is a new development since the above posts or if I have been misled but it would be nice to have a definitive answer since that of the blue posts on the forums and that of the GMs differs so greatly.

I am unaware of any NPC with whom one may speak to switch Tailoring specialisations without having previously unlearned Tailoring altogether and releveled it to 350 skill, Handariel, although I do apologise for any misinterpretation which may have arisen regarding this particular matter. :/

Q u o t e:
As Neerg was saying, Blacksmiths got the chance to resepc ONCE.
Well for gods sake all I am asking for is the opportunity to resepc ONCE.
I was a Holy Priest, and now Im shadow. I didn't do anything wrong while playing with my specialization. I thought that I was going to continue to heal. But I changed my mind. And for that I am being penalized.
IMO, Blizzard is penalizing us in tailoring if we decide to change our specs.

And on a different note, what could we possibly use a respecialization to benifit us for, if we cant sell our "soulbound" speciality items that we craft. Its not like we can make a Primal Mooncloth Robe and then go sell it on the AH, nor can we trade them with other characters.

I am extremly dissapointed in not having the option to redo my spec without having to spend 1000's of gold, and alot of time to start from scratch.

The NPC who trains you in your speciality is also misleading because they do not tell you that you can or cannot redo your specialization if you find out its not right for you.

Alot of issues were solved when Blizzard issued a free-respec from your class trainer when they had messed some stuff up.
Well, they messed this one up; I believe a free-respec or atleast the option of paying a fee to unlearn your speciality is in order, because having to start from scratch is not okay. It's not an option for a serious gamer.

Hiya Miyax,

In the upcoming Content Patch 2.1, there are planned to be modifications made to the re-specialization system for the Tailoring Profession. This can be read about more at:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/test-realm-patchnotes.html

Additional Profession Changes

  • You can now unspecialize in tailoring and leatherworking, and then select a new specialization. This is a repeatable choice, but costs gold each time.
