I have music turned off since I am trying to listen to Vent and in-game sound cues.
For example, Solarian. I listen for the sound of Wrath (which has a unique sound) and when I hear it, I check to see if my character is purple. If so, I run, if not, I hope the other guy runs. Of course I have DBM backing me up, but it helps.
Or if someone dies, the boss usually says something so I can use sound cues to back up what DBM is saying so I know what is going on.
Whether you are raiding for progression or something on farm status can make a big difference.
