Why does no one do the following heroics?

Crypts and both CoT heroics. On my server, finding a group for anything besides the daily heroic is hard, but even when these 3 instances are the daily, no body does them. I've offered to bribe people to run, and only get responses from undergeared players who aren't ready for anything beyond the difficulty of heroic slavepens. Why does no one want to run these instances?

A lot of these things come down to what players are comfortable with and not afraid to try.

For a long time places like heroic Shattered Halls, Mana Tombs, and Black Morass were feared by many people I know. Then after getting a bunch of upgrades out of dungeons and badges, when they tried them again they still had to learn the tricks and such but they were very completable.

No they don't. They come down to the fact that most of the lesser run heroics are extremely badly designed, and take a huge amount of time/skill compared to the number of badges. Every single Auchendoun heroic is guilty of this. When you're designing dungeons in WotLK, please make them reasonably sized. If there's one dungeon that drops three badges and takes 45 minutes, and another that drops 2 badges and takes an hour, it's little surprise which one people will flock to.

If you haven't already, you should check out the latest episode of BlizzCast as it touches on your concerns - but I still believe the comfort of knowing a zone makes a big impact on players.

The game has evolved since the launch of The Burning Cruasde and players are focused on farming Badges of Justice out of heroics instead of running them for the drops really. It is a pretty natural desire to go complete whatever dungeon is the quickest and easiest one and through a process of elimination, some dungeon will get picked for this.

When players were running the dungeons for the loot drops I knew many groups that did heroic Shadow Labyrinth but were afraid to set foot in heroic Mana Tombs as the first boss there could pack quite a punch. While Crypts was a bit long for players back then as well, Sethekk Halls was pretty common on my realm especially once the Epic Flight Form quest was added to it.

As the Badges of Justice became the primary focus for players I didn't see much action in any of these dungeons. It wasn't until a couple of us tried heroic Mana Tombs that we started hitting it a lot as it was a pretty quick run for us. It took some convincing to get a number of people in there, but once they did it, it went quite well.

Shattered Halls isn't feared. It's a long ass annoying dungeon with awful drops.

This is kind of the point, I started running this with guild mates for awhile when we learned it really didn't take a long time for the number of badges you would get.

SH is what 4 badges? So is mech, mech is far less annoying, so is UB. And yeah it does take a long time compared to other instances.

For that matter I'd rather just run the first couple bosses in Kara, it's easier and i'd get more badges.

Up to 5 Badges is possible - not too shabby especially when daily quests are up for it.

So are you the paladin tank, or is one of your guildies?

We didn't have a paladin tank.

I have to disagree and say this is a misinterpretation.

Like others have said, it isn't a risk vs reward comparison, rather a time vs reward judgement that's used. If you knew that you needed top dps to complete heroic Black Morass and you were bringing along people still wearing greens, this would slow you down considerably.

After running through heroic Shattered Halls with a T5+ pally who decided to pull everything up to the first large room (15 or so mobs?), and everyone lived, I also saw that there weren't many "tricks and such" to learn. Rather, we brute force our way using the speediest methods available. Try running the gauntlet in heroic SH without killing anything until you reach the end. Again, just faster.

Game evolution.
