So, I could report 90% of WoW players then and everyone would get a warning.

I think 90% is a bit high; most players understand that this is a teen rated game and we don't allow inappropriate language. There are always those that may not have read the Terms of Use or perhaps don't care or maybe have never played any MMO before (all other MMO's with a teen rating prohibit this type of language as well).

This is why we give you a warning if you are found to be using language or subject matter that violates our Terms of Use instead of simply suspending or closing the account for the first offense.
Q u o t e:

Even though there is a filter, you do need to be aware there are some dainty souls that have been wrapped up in cotton wool their whole lives that still take offense to profanity.

What you need to be aware of is there are people who simply don't care for that language nor want to listen to people of a puerile nature who can not seem to express themselves without using such language (usually badly). There are also parents who do not want their children exposed to such language.

But this isn't an effective way to get a point across. By calling people that swear childish and immature and questioning their ability to communicate effectively you put them on the defensive and make them less likely to actually listen to the greater point you're trying to make (i.e. not everyone has the same definitions of what is or isn't offensive, and a WoW subscriber should respect that if they value their account).

The greater point I was making was that everyone who plays World of Warcraft agreed to abide by our Terms of Use that state that you will not use such language in the game. We have stated this repeatedly but it tends not to get the attention is deserves in such discussions.

The claim made by a previous poster, the one that I quoted in my post was that if you did not wish to hear someone use profanity you were dainty or had been coddled all your life and simply couldn't take the language or that the person didn't actually care if profanity was used they just wanted to get you in trouble.

It is common belief that people who are not able to communicate without using such words are indeed immature nor can they communicate effectively if they can not get their point across without using such language.

Personally I love all language even the words that are considered as cuss or swear words. What I meant by using such words badly is that each profane word has its place in a sentence as a noun, verb, adverb, etc... and many use them incorrectly. There is a time and a place for certain actions, the mark mature person is one who understands this and acts accordingly. And the learned man (and woman) doesn't string them all higgledypiggledy together.

You wouldn't state shouting obscenities in the middle of a grocery store. Well some might but that store would have every right and a duty to their other customers to boot you from the store if you did.

I made my point in the way I felt fit the situation, if you have an issue with my response feel free to write to wowgmfeedback-us@blizzard.com.

And you really think that insinuating that he or she might be unintelligent or immature for using swear words won't be taken as an insult?

I don't recall insinuating anything about the OP or the person who I was responding to. I said:

People - a body of human beings considered generally or collectively; a group of two or more persons; (plural peoples) A group of persons forming or belonging to a particular nation, class, ethnic group, country, family, etc; folk; community.

I didn't say you (the poster in question or the OP) are being childish and stupid.

I'm not looking for a fight. I'm simply suggesting that words be chosen more carefully in the future. I do not even see how this would be something that anyone would try to argue against.

Well honestly since you seem to be the only one who took my statement in such a way, and I do not mean to get you on the defense about this point but, perhaps it isn't I who need to be careful in what I say but you in how you read it.

I don't mean to put anyone on the defensive, Carrotstick, I apologize that you took my post in such a way. I am very careful in how I say things but sometimes text doesn't come across nearly as well as verbal communication.
Q u o t e:

edit: Further, hasn't the OP's question been answered? Why is this thread still going?

Because I tend not to lock threads where discussion is taking place, I try not to lock threads in general unless they get out of hand. I don't agree with Carrotstick's synopsis but he has every right to view my post the way he has and debate the finer points if others wish to discuss it with him.
