What is going to happen at launch

Same thing as BC.

Before BC, you heard a lot of "oh gawd, all allies rollz shaman and all horde roll paladin." I do not deny that it happened. I mean, I rolled a pally on day one of launch, BUT I did not stick to him. I leveled my priest to 70 first, then I saw a lack of prot pallies, read strats on the web and saw how useful prot was. Then this guy was made and here I am now.

When WotLK launches, EVERYONE will roll a DK, but not everyone will think that it is a class for them, and will go back to their other characters. I for one plan to hit 80 first.

My plan is the same. I'll play a death knight at some point, but I'll be leveling up one of my main characters first. Not to mention, there will be a lot to be explored and experienced in Northrend.

I'm pretty sure that there is a quest chain at lvl 80 to unlock death knights for your account. So people wont be rolling them right as the expansion hits.

I edited out some info on your original post that I'm sure you didn't mean to post.

This is incorrect information. As long as you have a level 55 character on a server, you will be able to unlock the death knight (create one). There will be a questline associated with the death knight, however, so that you may learn how to play it and get into the storyline associated with them.

No matter which way you slice it, Neth and OP, you're gonna have huge contention for quest spots :D

Do what I do, use the first week of launch to catch up on your reading, maybe level a mid-range alt, or go on vacation. After that week's done most folks will have moved off and you're free to level away!

Ok, so I don't do that, but I'm giving serious thought to it! TBC was croooooooooooooooowded!

Keep in mind, unlike TBC, there isn't just one entry point into Northrend. There are two starting zones with some very interesting questlines and stories in them. There is also a way to traverse between them as well.

Just so I'm clear... I have a 70 on Nathrezim. Can I go play on a different server - like Scarlet Crusade (where I don't have any 55+ characters) and play a death knight?

At current, yes, this is the plan.
