Bloodlust - Realm Issues 04/30

Blizzard Post
Blackrock is experiencing some.. odd things. NPCs keep disappearing, players cannot see eachother. However, there doesn't appear to be any lag.

Can this be investigated?
#1 - April 30, 2008, 5:34 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Already on it. :)

For those of you presently encountering "Stuck" characters, read on—
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=5640976872&sid=1&pageNo=56#1114

Q u o t e:
Zîng, are you able to log into other realms not on Bloodlust? For example: Illidan, Onyxia, Mal'Ganis. Even if you don't have characters on any of those, if you can, create a character and submit a petition. We'll have guys ready to pluck any of you stuck folk out really quickly.

Here's a realm list per Battlegroup:

Q u o t e:
This issue has been a problem for weeks now, now they decide to take the servers down during high-playtime to address this issue.

This issue is not the same as that which has been ongoing.
#28 - April 30, 2008, 7:15 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Ignore the italics, by the way. They crept in behind my back.

Unless you're cool with added emphasis. Some people like extra pizazz.
#31 - April 30, 2008, 7:26 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Wait, so this isn't to fix the latency/disconnection issues over the past few weeks?

Not specifically, no.

I'm still trying to determine whether or not such time will be used for further review, though.
#39 - April 30, 2008, 8:38 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Hey, if you guys want to go play other games now or in the near future, that's cool. PC games are wonderful things and if you think you'll be better fit elsewhere, then please pursue that path. In the end, it's all about whatever makes you sincerely happy. We created World of Warcraft in order to create happiness and if you're not finding it, and if you think you're never going to find it herein ever again, then so be it.

In the meantime, however, I am concerned with this game, so if we could, as a group, not deviate in this sort of negative direction, that'd be rad.

No ETA beyond 1:00pm PDT. I'll keep you guys as updated as possible. Thanks for sticking in there. :)
#43 - April 30, 2008, 8:54 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
The thing about happiness is that people tend to take it bad when you take their happiness away. Not saying that this can be avoided, just that venting should be and is to be expected. After all we are only human... or night elf.. or troll.. or... You get the idea.

I'm simply noting that I'm not personally threatened by remarks which indicate a departure from World of Warcraft. As long as the crazy pursuit of happiness is the reason for such. :)
#45 - April 30, 2008, 8:58 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Actually, it looks like some of the servers are back up now. False alarm, or good news?

So far, Caelestrasz, Dreadmaul, Frostwolf, and Nagrand are up. Blackrock, Killrogg, Ner'zhul, Proudmoore, and Silver Hand are still being tinkered with.

Given that incoming latency reports are still high, we're keeping a close eye on everything and taking it slowly.
#52 - April 30, 2008, 9:07 p.m.
Blizzard Post
The latency you guys are seeing is being tracked internally and should be resolved once all realms are live. About 15 to 20 minutes, I believe.
#61 - April 30, 2008, 9:34 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Latency should be subsiding shortly, folks. This means that character lists and full in-game log ins should be good to go really soon.

Still keeping this thread open to keep communication flowing (just in case).
#76 - April 30, 2008, 9:56 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Our Techs shifted things around to hopefully counter the effects you guys are presently facing. Log out, wait ten minutes, log back in.

I'll be here waiting, so if you guys get caught up again, just scream at me and we'll go from there. :P
#79 - April 30, 2008, 9:59 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Do I have to scream? I find lighting torches and grabbing pitchforks is a much better form of motivation.

Hey. I was trying to save you the extra baggage. But if you want to tote around that sort of paraphernalia, by all means—be an angry mob. ;)
#89 - April 30, 2008, 10:08 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Angry mobs tend to be mindless idiots as opposed to people that actually bother to type an articulate post.

Cool. Articulation is pretty nifty, and I'm one savvy advocate. If this is your goal, then please refrain from making statements to this effect:

Great to see your server admins are as incompetent as ever.

It might make you feel better on the inside, but it just spurs further negativity and shallow berating. Which is the antithesis of "cool" and "pretty nifty" in my opinion.

Rescinding previous estimate. Goes without saying, but latency levels have not dropped to optimal levels. Tossing back this issue to our DBAs and awaiting a response.
#95 - April 30, 2008, 10:13 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Your form of rabble rousing is fine, Zuldak.

That may or may not be solely due to the fact that you're only one person. Or, you know, because you're a Troll.

I haven't yet decided.
#100 - April 30, 2008, 10:17 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Sure its negative but doesn't it beat the usual spill out 4-5 lines of garbage littered with bad language?

Comparatively, it's fine. The fact that your post is still living and breathing is testimony that it's more appropriate than profanity-filled diatribes.

That said, that's only comparatively. Insulting people by way of name or attribute calling really isn't going to make anything happen faster. It's just going to irk people in ways they may not even realize.

Negativity tends to beget negativity, etc.

You're a keen kind of guy. That sort of direction doesn't really become you.

Also—

Q u o t e:
Sadly yes it has.

No, it's not.
#103 - April 30, 2008, 10:20 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Maybe you could read up.

You're referencing something completely different. Please see here:

That and this, while ostensibly synced, are not the same issue.
#112 - April 30, 2008, 10:25 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
I have read the thread, this has been a BR issue for months.

The quote you cited—This issue is not the same as that which has been ongoing—was not speaking of a Blackrock-specific issue, rather a unique occurrence that has affected all realms within Bloodlust during Oceanic peak hours starting at the onset of 2.4.

Today's issue may be technically associated, but is not wholly related to the concerns iterated in the referenced thread. So, "No, it's not" is the correct response.
#118 - April 30, 2008, 10:32 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
You quote you cited?

Yar. Was a typo, now corrected. :)

Q u o t e:
Yes it may be affecting all realms but this is a normal routine for players from blackrock.

I realize the denizens of Blackrock are concerned about the performance of their home realm and that's not to be discredited. Regardless, this is a matter that's affecting a whole Battlegroup so the sources are quite vividly different—just as the nightly latency issues are different from that which are ongoing currently.

That's what I'm trying to convey. And I'm really and truly sorry that you've felt impeded and targeted for such a length of time.
#125 - April 30, 2008, 10:40 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
If you want to see the flaming and insults drop off, I'd suggest Blizzard be a bit more responsive to (and a little less condescending of) its customers. I understand that it would provide moderators with reduced opportunities for witty, clever banter, for that I apologize in advance. :)

I merely asked that targeted name calling cease, as it tends to encourage others to jump on the same Negative Nancy bandwagon. Once that happens, informative threads become derogatory and then Banhammers are brandished and someone leaves crying. I like smiling, personally. But that's just me.

Expressions of frustration are cool. I'm totally down with that, because—hey—it's maddening not to be able to play. In that same vein, I try to banter back and forth with people who are actually open to it; it tends to help pass the time and redirect some of the frustration between updates. Given that updates may not always be timely (meaning, that newer revelations aren't always discovered or passed on from our Techs and DBAs as quickly as some would like), it keeps the thread (hopefully) light and bumped to the top of the page.

I really am sorry that you're so affected by this situation, Domil, and I do intend to stick with this issue until its conclusion. That said, I'm just not sure what more I can personally do for you at this juncture. Was there something else I could provide or speak about?

Negative Nancy! I absolutely love it.

I may borrow that one, Syndri. I hope you don't mind.

I stole it from Scrubs. You may!

And it looks like I'll be here for another 2 to 3 hours. Hopefully, this matter will be dead, done, and buried by then. :)

Q u o t e:
Look I'm cancelling my account right now.

If this can be solved with a simple restart, then my all means please let your less than comeptent networking associations google the answers to their problems while thousands of players can actually enjoy the service they pay for.

I'm truly sorry you feel pressured into such an action, Koomandoka. Regardless, I wish you only the best of luck and hope you find an equal niche. :)

Realms are being taken down. No standard countdown for these, so head's up.

Current estimation: 2 hour downtime

That frame may be revised later on; if so, I'll definitely let you know.

Edit: Sorry for the short notice on that one, guys. :(
#175 - April 30, 2008, 11:22 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
Can you tell us what went wrong?

I answered this already, back a few pages: It was space monkeys. A particularly vicious breed, too.

Beyond that, I fear the direct source is not something to which I am privy. Nor need I be, really. :)
#179 - April 30, 2008, 11:26 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
And why were the servers not monkey proofed?

We failed to develop a contingency plan for anaerobic threats. :(

Q u o t e:
Monkeys are not anaerobic.

Space monkeys are.

Q u o t e:
Umm... ya, he said 2 hours from downtime, which was 3:15 or so.

Yup. That's the preliminary time frame. It may be revised shortly, though, once Breaking News is updated. Should anything of sort occur, I'll provide a revamp herein, as well.
#196 - April 30, 2008, 11:41 p.m.
Blizzard Post
Q u o t e:
So I'm confused when you say that you do not need to be privvy to such information. Please elaborate.

Because it's not integral to my role. Period.

My position does not involve resolving or working directly with the hardware or maintenance processes necessary to keep this particular entity functioning. My position is to communicate 1) when there's an issue; 2) that we're investigating; 3) what steps we are taking should they affect the player base; and 4) when resolution is met. Detailing that X tube in the series didn't properly connect Y dump truck, while perhaps satiating to those who may understand such information, will not change any potential outcome.

Thanks for the expected question, though. :)

Not cool, guys. Not cool. I'd sincerely recommend that, if you are participating in such spamming in effort to grief Argent Dawn, that you stop. Now.

Q u o t e:
Blizz doesn't seem to care when they spam EVERY OTHER SERVER

Sure we do. Denizens of Blackrock are simply more vocal about the process.

That's not a negative or positive remark, mind you. Just one that's true.

I know you guys are sincerely frustrated, and that's absolutely understandable. It's just not the bestest idea ever, guys to loot and plunder another village, so to speak. Inundating another realm in protest is only likely to cause that realm to experience capacity issues. If such issues escalate, it may detract attention from those larger, more prevalent concerns affecting Blackrock. Naw mean?

It's not important, so I didn't include it.

Shouting demands like that is going to do as much good as trying to attack Ironforge on Argent Dawn with level 1 gnomes. Just sayin'.

All realms should be live; if you cannot access your realm immediately, give it about 5 minutes. We'll be conducting global testing of the battlegroup for the next half-hour or so, so please report back any hiccups or interruptions during game play. :)

I actually need to amend that statement:

"Pleasure (Pleasure)" - favorite on guitar
"Welcome Home" - favorite on bass
