Dillema... Model editing, is it allowed?

I know I know, it's been discussed allot, but recently I've stumbled upon a few screenshots of GM's saying that as long as you don't edit the game that it somehow gives you an advantage, you're fine and can model edit w/e you want. Now I know for a fact that allot of WoW players would love to change their races just visually and I'm one of them, after a while it just gets boring, but I don't want to risk my account for that.

I know it is against the ToS to edit any game files, but so is account sharing and allot of people let their friends play every now and then and Blizzard "allows" that.

A blue answer to once and for all solve this would be awesome!

To put this as simply as possible:

This is never okay. Period.

I don't mean to be brusque, but Part 4, Section B of our Terms of Use should outline things in more detail:

Q u o t e:
You agree that you will not (i) modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of the Program or the Service; (ii) create or use cheats, bots, "mods", and/or hacks, or any other third-party software designed to modify the World of Warcraft experience; or (iii) use any third-party software that intercepts, "mines", or otherwise collects information from or through the Program or the Service. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you may update the Program with authorized patches and updates distributed by Blizzard, and Blizzard may, at its sole and absolute discretion, allow the use of certain third party user interfaces.

If warden would catch it Blizzard could be sued, they aren't allowed to scan your HD. Also everyone using model edits would be immediately banned since if Warden catche something it's an insta-ban.

Only partially true, but this should be of interest:

Terms of Use, Part 14, Section A and B:

Q u o t e:
WHEN RUNNING, THE PROGRAM MAY MONITOR YOUR COMPUTER'S RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY (RAM) AND/OR CPU PROCESSES FOR UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAMS RUNNING CONCURRENTLY WITH WORLD OF WARCRAFT. AN "UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM" AS USED HEREIN SHALL BE DEFINED AS ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY "ADDON" OR "MOD," THAT IN BLIZZARD'S SOLE DETERMINATION: (i) ENABLES OR FACILITATES CHEATING OF ANY TYPE; (ii) ALLOWS USERS TO MODIFY OR HACK THE WORLD OF WARCRAFT INTERFACE, ENVIRONMENT, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IN ANY WAY NOT EXPRESSLY AUTHORIZED BY BLIZZARD; OR (iii) INTERCEPTS, "MINES," OR OTHERWISE COLLECTS INFORMATION FROM OR THROUGH THE PROGRAM. IN THE EVENT THAT THE PROGRAM DETECTS AN UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM, BLIZZARD MAY (a) COMMUNICATE INFORMATION BACK TO BLIZZARD, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION YOUR ACCOUNT NAME, DETAILS ABOUT THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM DETECTED, AND THE TIME AND DATE THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM WAS DETECTED; AND/OR (b) EXERCISE ANY OR ALL OF ITS RIGHTS UNDER SECTION 6 OF THIS AGREEMENT, WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE TO THE USER.

WHEN THE PROGRAM IS RUNNING, BLIZZARD MAY OBTAIN CERTAIN IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR COMPUTER AND ITS OPERATING SYSTEM, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION YOUR HARD DRIVES, CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT, IP ADDRESS(ES) AND OPERATING SYSTEM(S), FOR PURPOSES OF IMPROVING THE PROGRAM AND/OR THE SERVICE, AND TO POLICE AND ENFORCE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT AND THE EULA.

They may be able to detect big model edits, such as changing race, but there is absolutely NO way to detect cache editing of stuff like weapons. What is involved in that kind of model edit is the changing of FOUR letters in thousands of lines of hexadecimal code. There is simply no way to detect that.

*chuckle*

Whatever helps you get to sleep at night, my friend.

The only thing ----

---- Dont really understand is if AddOns are aloud now cause I look on the World of Warcraft website, just browsing, Well, I should say Blizzard Website, and there was a thing there about AddOns, where you could put addons on world of warcraft such as something that popped up a little window and said "hello" or w/e u wanted it to say. This post has confused me, I don't know if I should get rid of the addons I have. And I had a addon that changed the UI like how it looked and stuff Im not sure if it was against the rules but i've stopped using it already. It messed up my Raid UI and Im trying to get that fixed, I posted something int he forums about it, heres the link:

Try this Support Article, Wolffe.

In the future if you have additional questions just create a new thread if one on this subject does not exist on the first few pages. :) Though the UI and Macro forum would be the better place to post on addon questions.
