Inactivity time before character deletion?

So, I've been playing this game about since it came out. But about 2 months ago the guild I was in broke up and I tried to find a new raiding guild, but be honest, who wants rogues? Had 1 that might have worked, if I had the kael vial, but alas, no. So I've given up on WoW during that time, moving on mostly to TF2 mapping.

Now, I may come back at some point, probably around Wrath, but I would like to hear something "offical" on what the time is that your account can go inactive before anything starts getting deleted. It used to be never, then 1 year, then 6 months, etc. I've heard all kinds of things, but I have no idea what the real answer is.

Did a lot of work in the game, 5 70s atm and 4 others are close, as well as 3-4 characters in T4 and one in T5+. I just want that to all be there when (really, if) I come back.

Deleted characters may become unrecoverable as time passes, but any active, undeleted characters that you have will be there waiting for you when you return. This, of course, is provided that you haven't provided access to the account to another player (which is against our Terms of Use), or that you account has not been otherwise compromised during your absence.

Hopefully, though, you'll find things just as you left them.
