GameSpy: I'd like to ask about the relationships between the design team and the player base. The raid designers have a very well-documented and public relationship with some of the world's top raiding guilds. Is there a similar segment of the player base that are involved with the arena and class designers, or that you keep tabs on? Arena Junkies, for example?

Tom Chilton: Yeah, I'd absolutely say that that's true. I always get feedback from different players that are pretty well respected in the arena community. One of our class designers is the guild leader of probably one of the most well-known PvP guilds in the world. I'll still keep him anonymous, though. So we definitely have those kinds of links in the community and we get feedback all the time. We definitely use that as a point of evaluation for all of our changes.

Perhaps Chilton could try developing some contacts in the roleplaying community?

Keep in mind that the interview was focused on PvP and the Arenas. I'm confident we have a number of roleplayers on the design team as well.

exactly confident enough to give a vague and totally noncommittal response.

Surely you jest. To provide an exact numerical value would be folly but I can assure you madam I have spoken with a number of roleplaying fellows.

Hope that helps.

well, its a nice gesture for the RP folks, but I think they moreso get in a tizzy because they dont often see/feel the tangible signs. I betcha theyd love it if there was a CM (even a part time CM) who did RP.
Someone like them.

I brought up a question regarding roleplaying that is going to be talked about in the next Blizzcast. It's not exactly a mountain of information as it's only one question, but it talks about some things I'm looking forward to seeing so I hope that helps a bit.

I hope this was a poor joke not based on the assumption that anyone who roleplays clearly talks like they just stepped out of a Shakespeare play.

While I support the groups/guilds who enjoy speaking this way, *dramatic-head-turn* you are correct in that I don't assume all roleplayers talk like this.

Well, thank you for that, I am looking forward to hearing what it is and I hope it's new information rather than things we already know. Still, it doesn't come close to fixing the huge gap in communication that exists at the moment. I think we're looking for some reassurance that the roleplaying communities exist as -some- kind of priority at least.

There isn't a lot I can say right now, but we do plan to continue developing things that are for roleplaying.
