High Level In Low Level Instances

I am somewhat new to WoW, not completely but there are still thing even I am learning. It is at the point that it is costing me 15-20 gold a day for armor repairs as I am in the outlands. I do not want to get in trouble as apparently you can.

Here is my question...

How does WoW feel about Higher levels farming the lower level instances. I know that I sometimes run my lower level friends through them to get better gear and most of the time don't touch a single drop. I have a friend who goes to the stocks frequently and is at the 55th level in her character. I myself have not run an instance on my own for drops as I feel it could possibly get me banned but I do not know the rules on this. Can a blue please advise me on what is proper? Is it ok to run the instances at higher levels to get the items to sell in AH or do we higher levels simply need to stay away from doing that?

Also is it ok to run my friends which are at lower levels through these instances so that they can get their quest and better gear?

As long as you aren't breaking any of our normal rules - say, like botting, Mistonia - knock yourself out friend.

I find this a particularly satisfying actually. Revisit some of the places that bedeviled me when I was there the first time.
