I have a lot of really fond memories of PvP in all its various forms, but some of my favorite ones have been those battles where I felt like some clutch, creative gameplay decisions from either my comrades or myself changed the tide of battle.
Probably one of my favorite memories was from a particularly perilous 5v5 Rated Arena match. The match had gone on for quite a while, and at any given moment it was unclear who was “winning.” For each death one side suffered, the opposing side suffered a casualty as well.
In the end, only two of us remained, and I was incredibly low-life.
With my heart pumping, I went one-on-one against my enemy while my friends cheered me on over Ventrilo. Each of us tried all sorts of things to thwart the other, from straight-up trying to kill each other or run the other out of mana, through trying to get a rez off on one our fallen comrades. In the end though, I pulled out every trick in the book and managed to slowly edge ahead of my opponent due to a combination of creative LoS, interrupts, and intense perseverance. But I still distinctly recall those final few moments where I opted for a well-timed juked-cast followed by a burst of damage that brought the match to a close.
I felt a rush of adrenaline the whole time, and I thought it was very sportsmanlike that when we’d exited the Arena, the other player whispered me to tell me “GG.” :)
