How to install patch manually?

Ack! I've never visited the tech forums on a patch day, I hope this question gets noticed.

I'm actually trying to install 2.3 after I inadvertently let the autopatcher install 2.4, then used the repair utility to rollback WoW to an earlier version 2.0.0 (6080).

Firstly, I can go directly from 2.0 to 2.3, right?

2nd, search though I might, I can't find a clear explanation of how to install 2.3 once I download it. wowwiki has this to say:

Q u o t e:
* Manual patches: Unzip contents to your WoW directory and double click the file Blizzard Updater.exe or BNUpdate.exe to start patching. Blizzard Updater.exe and BNUpdate.exe check for ".\Data\{locale}" (the current directory), "..\Data\{locale}" (the parent directory), "..\..\Data\{locale}" (the parent of the parent directory), until it hits the root of the directory structure (where it informs you that WoW must be installed before it can be patched), for Game data (not tested on any paths deeper than "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Patches\{patch folder}\{patch data}"); therefore, you must put the patch files directly in the WoW installation folder or in a subdirectory of said folder. For example, the following all work for "WoW-2.2.3-to-2.3.0-enUS-patch.zip":

1. unzip the files to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW-2.2.3-to-2.3.0-enUS-patch" and double-click "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW-2.2.3-to-2.3.0-enUS-patch\BNUpdate.exe"
2. unzip the files to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Patches" and double-click "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Patches\BNUpdate.exe"
3. unzip the files to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft" and double-click "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\BNUpdate.exe

To which I say, "huh?!"

So I just unzip the patch that I'm downloading from fileplanet to what will most likely be the default directory, then go to my wow file and click either BNUpdate or Blizzard Updater, and it will be installed?

This sentence is confusing. Will unzipping it to a folder "put" it into the folder? Is he just saying make sure you're unzipping it into the right folder?

I'm so computer-inept ><

Yes, if you have a file called WoW-2.3.0-enUS-patch

You need to run that one first (double-click it), then WoW-2.3.0.7561-to-2.3.2.7741-enUS-patch.
Run WoW-2.3.2.7741-to-2.3.3.7799-enUS-patch after that. You will download the 2.4.0 patch after doing this.

I'm not sure what you're quoting as that is a very old patch file. You may have gotten it off of an old Windows 98/ME thread.

You just need to run them in order. Check your error:

"WoW.exe" version 2.2.3.7359. You have an older version, 2.0.0.6080"

Since you have 2.0.0, you need to somehow get to 2.2.3. That's sort of impossible since a bigger patch encompasses it. If you have WoW-2.3.0-enUS-patch, double click it and run it. If you don't have it, it might not be possible for you to patch manually. Just log onto the game and download the big patch.
