To the best of my knowledge you can be in one team of each size but you will only gain points from the team that awards you with the most for that week. I'll get this clarified later today.

[edit] Clarity incoming. This is still the case. You can join one arena team of each size, 2, 3 or 5.

Very lame, that's like saying "you can compete in all 3 battlegrounds, but you only get bonus honor from the battleground you won the most in"

If you were receiving points from all three teams then it would become mandatory to compete with all three teams, we would have to base the reward point value off that fact. If you hoped to obtain the rewards in any fair amount of time it would be necessary that you be in all three team sizes and competed regularly.

You're able to gain some amount of redundancy in the case that one or more teams isn't able to compete that week, and you also get "your highest score" giving you more chances to get more points than you would have with only one team.

If you don't want to be in one team of each size for that redundancy or chance at a better point reward then don't.

then why not let people be in as many teams as they want?
only the better one gets them anything, so its not like it matters.
or am i missing something?

Likely because server storage and power capacity are not infinite, and as there is probably some limitation that exists the one to make the most sense would be a "one per team" choice. We also wouldn't want to encourage a large time investment through players really take 'playing the odds' to the minmaxing extreme.

After you've won the ladder or the 10 games or however it's going to work, can you continue to play ladder Arena games for the week so as to beat other teams and cause them to get less Arena points? Cuz lets face, who wants their rival teams to get the same gear as them the week after you got it? Not Me! Plus all the armor looks the same is redundant at endgame cuz EVERYONE gets the BEST and there's no utility to customize your characters look, so if I could keep others from getting, I would feel my character is more unique than someone elses.

You can play as many games as you can get in to, but with each additional game your risk is higher that you'll lose and end up with a worse standing than you would have had if you had just stopped.

So does that mean that being 10-0 is better than being, say, 15-5? or 18-2? or 12-1?

Well the arena ranking uses and ELO-type ladder system, so a win and a loss aren't definite point values. It depends on the team's ranking you play as to what your win or loss is actually worth. You could go 10-0 and win against really low-ranked teams and gain little rank, or go 5-5 and win against amazing teams and lose against amazing teams and be ahead of the 10-0. Those are probably very extreme situations (it's just an example), and as the arena system will attempt to match you with teams of ~equal standing, probably won't happen too often.

Q u o t e:
Seems silly to make the incentive to 'quit while you are ahead' vs 'win the most games possible while minimizing losses'

You can go either route, it's all dependent on your choice as a team and your willingness to gamble your ranking. If you can continue to win with a minimal amount of losses, then that's great, you'll likely be increasing your rank a little bit further as you go. However, if you lose against a team that's much lower than you then you would be risking everything you had been playing for. Do you risk it, or do you quit while you're ahead and take the points? Unfortunately the decision isn't held in a shiny briefcase by a model, but the choice is yours.

Cool. Where's my 10 minute PvE arena that lets me obtain epic quality items while only logging in for an hour a week? Sure there's Onyxia, but you can't get a full set of gear from Onyxia, and you shouldn't be able to get a full set of gear from this.

There will be additional quick PvE encounters similar to Onyxia in the expansion. Also the arenas don't offer a full set of gear, it's a 5 piece plus weapons. My example was fairly extreme in that a team will still need to be very skilled, and likely then still be working to stay ahead of the game, and practicing a lot. If someone could literally log in, play their 10, and take top honors for the week then their realm either needs to l2p or they're deserving of the rewards due to their skill of the game.
