Is my name that offensive?

Since WOW beta, heck since the old days back in EQ, i have been Waang. (i played a monk, and thought he should have an Asian name). when a friend showed me the WoW beta i was hooked. i left EQ and came to WoW. since i had made so many friends in EQ i used the same name here so people would recognize me. that name has been part of my various character identity for 7 years.

last week i log into the game and get the "blizzard has deemed this name offensive, and you must change it" needless to say i was crushed. yeah i changed it, and yeah i don't like the new name.
since the name change, i don't play that character much anymore, it just dosen't feel like me anymore, and in fact, playing wow has kind of lost it's luster for me now.

i am not a lvl 10 newb, i am a lvl 60 that raids ony & MC on regular basis and has been playing for 2 years.

what's offensive is all a matter of opinion, and the one who is on the receiving end of the complaint has zero rights. i am sorry if you think of a male anatomy part when you see my name, it's also computer company founded in 1951, and is the last name of millions, maybe billions, of Asian peoples.

i know blizzard had some 7 million accounts and dosen't care about each one, but if it is possible, can i have my name back?

I understand your frustration, and that you may have now become attached to your name. However, I must ask that you please take a look at our Customer Service Forum - Frequently Asked Questions Sticky above. In particular, the section that covers Discussing or Disputing Account Actions/Closures:
(http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=10811083&sid=1#10). Unfortunately, you are going to have to take this matter up with Account Administration: (http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowaa/).

I am not completely sure of the tone on that one, so I am going to take it as an earnest "thank you" and return it with a, you’re welcome. :0P

Is this how the naming system is working?

No.

I would hope it would be clear that a name with added letters which is pronounced the same as an inappropriate name would be seen as different from a name where it's required that one omit several letters and rearrange others in order to formulate something inappropriate.

But pronounciation is dependent on dialouge. One person could pronouce "Waang" as WONG while another could pronounce it WAING

In other words, there is a grey area there where we may want to remove the name to avoid certain connotations. I doubt many people would see Deadlykris walk by and demand his name, Dik, be changed. ; D

You just unveiled that Deadlykris is a male, and for this you will recieve a forum warning for willfully reveiling personal details.

Goblins have already been dispatched to his location. It's only a matter of time until the screaming begins...

heheh... While I can assure you I have no plans of becoming a politician, I am flattered by that, Hacticel.

I honestly do not think your point holds water at all; and, I even kind of figured you were trolling... or at least joking.
