You remember your first Lucifron kill?

As a raider when was the last time you got "that feeling." The same one you got when your guild first ventured into MC, made it past the first two giants, down the ramp and through pathing Surgers and Core Hounds, and finally across the bridge and through the imp cave to kill Lucifron. You were learning to raid, wiping left and right, and going so slow that trash was respawning on you. Pull Luci, guards mind control someone who fears the raid into the imp caves, etc, etc. Tier 1 gloves. OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good times.

Same goes for Onyxia, whelps, deep breath, fears, MANY WHELPS! I remember the first time we finally downed Onyxia and got Tier 2 helms that was a sign of accompishment. My ears nearly exploded from the sreaming and cheering on Vent when she finally died.

Now we down a new boss and we usually get a few "w00ts" and "yays" in raid text chat, and a "good job" from the raid leaders.

I don't get any of those same feelings anymore that I had during our first Luci and Ony kills. =(

What raid dungeons are you currently progressing in?

TK & SSC. I have to admit that I raid less and less these days mainly because of the entire "meh" feeling I get from it anymore. For some it's probably still exciting, I just do get that excitement/fun anymore. I've been having more fun lately running my alt through 5 mans with some guildies or hopping into BGs on my own schedule.

I guess after awhile everything loses it's luster for some people. I just wish I could get "that feeling" again. :-/

I think the big climactic bosses like Lady Vashj and Kael'thas still generally get a roaring response when they go down for the first time, but yeah, things have changed since the early Molten Core raiding days. Back then people were just learning what raiding is and learning strategies. These days people know what raiding is and the places to read strategies before you face a boss even once.

While I don't believe this takes the fun out of the game, it generally can help get through bosses faster and beating a boss for the first time that took you 1-2 months to kill compared to 1-2 weeks can probably be a factor in the reaction from the players present.

This is a cop out at best. I've heard this theory before, and I gotta say it's the biggest load of crap since Liberace came out of the closet. People point to Naxx as the ultimate raiding experience, that boss encounters were challenging, designed well enough to take *months* to figure out (re: 4h), and ultimately exciting to play in. From the very get go in BC, there has been one complaint after another regarding just about every single encounter save for one, Kael'Thas, who has since been heavily nerfed. There's no way in the space of a few months that the raiding populace all of the sudden got extremely sk1lled any more than they already were.

People knew in Molten Core to go to Conquest's website. They knew in BWL, AQ40, and Naxx to go to the Elitist Jerks website. They knew about Thottbot in beta. Raiding mods have been ultimately non-game changing since reliable Threat Meters were introduced late in BWL, and in fact Blizzard has gone to great lengths to change some that were (Decursive). The math has been so inconsistant from patch to patch that it's constantly new discovery on mechanics, most of which are changed dramatically or removed completely (weapon skill), requiring many more months to parse and dissect and learn. Raiders are not any 'smarter' than they were in AQ40, they are not any more 'skilled.' They are the same people you were designing content for 2 years ago. Except back then you were designing for 40, not 25.

I would have to say I've had a tremendously different experience I guess. With 25 people I have felt like I'm raiding with much more knowledgeable people than I ever felt pre-TBC. Overall the raiding process has been easier for me in The Burning Crusade, this is probably based on the people I'm with and due to the design of the encounters.

Personally, I would say killing C'thun was the 'biggest cheer' I've ever heard but I've also never been stuck on any boss for a longer period of time.

Naxxramas was a great dungeon for sure, hence the reason we are updating it for Wrath of the Lich King. I hope you get the chance to enjoy it again when it's available.

That's basically my point. The major change in the raiding populace came from the reduction of raid size from 40 to 25, not an increase in knowledge, not a greater understanding of the game, not from more detailed analysis tools. Straight from that reduction in raid size alone, period. The high end/end game raiders did not consume the content so fast because they got smarter. The mechanics of the game got easier, while the management of the personnel got harder.

I think the additional experience a lot of raiders have makes a significant impact on things too.
