Auctioneer causing bans-what ui mods safe?

well it is slowly becoming a known fact that most of the random banned accounts all share one similarity - they have auctioneer. Auctioneer can be debated as to be offering a unfair advantage in the game by violation of the TOS...and it can be rightfully defended by blizz as well.

Thank God i did not install it so i did not get caught, but it draws my attention to other things now. Since blizz decided to throw out a unnanounced ban over such a widely used ui mod...then how can i feel safe using my wide selection of ui mods?

i got anything from allinoneinventory to ctraid to ktm. these all can be classified as offering the same advantage as auctioneer....so who is safe really? am i really going to be pressed into using blizzard's POS ui the way it is? if they wish to be this anal why dont they at least improve the ui so it is acceptable w/o ui mods?

/sigh

We have not banned any one for their use of a legitimate UI mod, a piece of code that works within our allowable definitions to change the interface of the game (such as the one you mentioned). The third party programs being detected are specific hacks that we are able to acutely detect and verify before closing an account.

We do not take account closures lightly, and we take enormous steps to ensure that those we remove from the game are specifically and properly confirmed as being in violation of our rules and agreements before doing so.

I was running my level 16 rogue through dm when it got disconnected and banned. In fact it got disconnected about 3 times in the hour prior to the ban. And then finally, I can't login anymore.

How is that a hack?

We usually build up a large list before actually banning the accounts, thus the large influx of posts currently. Use of a third party program could date back quite a while before the actual ban goes through.

Drysc,

Is it possible that people who are using Linux as an operationg system are getting banned? I know blizzard wont just go and ban for no reason. I was just wondering cause sooo many that use this seem to be the ones going away.

An operating system would not produce a false positive, no.

As a final word to those here concerning their account being closed I can only recommend that you contact our Account Administration team by e-mailing [email protected] which is also included in the e-mail you should have received.

Unless you are running around on every possible OS and testing on all of them to see how it reacts, I don't think you can truly say this isn't possible.

As I said we take enormous steps to ensure that those we remove from the game are specifically and properly confirmed as being in violation of our rules and agreements before doing so. I still urge those of you who feel you have been wrongfully banned to contact our Account Administration team.
