It has nothing to do with 'elitism' or 'epeen'. Nor does it have to do with all the big, nasty 1% of the high raiders wanting to keep all the epics for themselves.
It's very simple, really, and I'll put the analogy as cleanly as I can. Do any of you remember the old PvP system? I do. Do you remember the High Warlord and Grand Marshal titles? People put forth effort to get those titles. A - lot - of effort, in fact, and some(as many have heard) went too far to get the titles. But the idea here is a lot of effort had to be put forth to get the goal.
If you suddenly, finally, achieved this elusive title and the next week Blizzard released a much less time-consuming way to get the same title, would you not feel angry? Insulted, perhaps? That your achievement was belittled? Can you understand that idea?
That is all this is about. In order to get into Hyjal and Black Temple, you not only need to have a raid that is capable of killing things in there... but you need to complete what comes before it and get that attunement. That's a lot of effort. A lot.
But now, Blizzard is dropping those attunements. Kael'thas and Vashj(arguably two of the hardest boss fights I've ever done) no longer even need to be killed. For those of us who have done the chain, it feels as if our work was all for naught.
BUT WAIT!
I know. We're getting a title to commemorate our hard work. The only problem with that is that it seems that Blizzard is dropping us uncreative titles every time they drop another attunement chain. Champion of the Naaru is kind of cool, but Hand of A'dal arguably sounds boring and.. uncreative. I can't speak for all raiders, but I don't think that most of them just want a new title to display for their work in completing an attunement. If we must get titles, it would help if they actually sounded cool.
That's all there is to it. The hard work feels belittled. No one is out to get the casuals or keep people from putting forth effort and getting epics and seeing content too. It just doesn't feel fair that there is now an easier route to do it.
Blizzard should either keep their attunements in place, or not put them in at all. One or the other, because dropping them after people have had to go through them just spoils a lot of the sense of achievement.
