After rougly 2 years of playing WoW, and 6 years of being in guy dominated hobbies, I've seen my far share of sexism. It comes in all of its usual colorations:
- An assumption that, because I'm a girl, I'm an inferior player
- Having favors thrown at me (gold, items, spots in raids)
- Being flirted with/hit on
-Being mistaken for a boy (guys, how would you like it if everyone assumed you were a girl?)
- And yes, harassment/being limited, all because I'm a girl.
Enough is enough. Sexism is way too apparent on this game. Yes, it is a game dominated by male players, so Blizzard profits from catering to that. That doesn't justify it. I'm sick of staring at provactive images of female toons when I'm sitting at a loading screen. I'm sick of being treated differently, because I'm a girl. I'm sick of having my play time interrupted and degraded by immature scrubs who refuse to grow up and think with their heads. But mostly, I am sick to death of Blizzard ignoring and, to an extent, supporting WoW sexism.
It needs to stop. Sexism on WoW is a real problem, whether or not anyone wants to admit it. Especially on the forums, I am tired of seeing the same stereotypical assumptions about female players spring up day after day. Where are the Blues to end this? You guys have the power, why aren't you doing anything? Yes, you support respect for everyone in game and on the forums, but what are you guys doing to actually enforce that happening? I've reported incidents that were overboard for me in game, what was done in regards to those? I had no feedback to let me know the problem had been taken care of.
I'm not asking for huge changes here. I just don't want to feel like I need to hide my sex in order to be treated fairly on the game.
