I'm worried about WotLK

I started playing this game in March of '07, and it took me a while to discover the joy of thottbot, alhakazam, etc. I was running around in Stranglethorn Vale, looking for Bag'thera, totally frustrated because I had know idea where to find her, when a friend said "let me thottbot this."

"What the heck is thottbot?" I asked. Needless to say, I went there myself and lo and behold, what wonderous information was suddenly available to me. I have found these type of sights to be invaluable to me.

So, now when WotLK comes out, there will be no databases for the new quests and instances. I understand that a great majority of you have already been through this conundrum of trying to figure things out for yourselves. How did you do it? I'm sure some of you will just think I am lazy, but actually, I have avoided lots of frustration being able to look up answers to some of the more difficult quests and boss fights.

Anyone else out there feel the same way? Those of you who did tough it through the new content, how did you do it without pulling out most of your hair?

I think it's too early to worry about it. Just remember, in the past, people have been able to gather information on quests etc, just based on the beta and then were able to update it once they got into live. Many fansites and information sites also work hard to create helpful guides for players. We also have a guide section on our site and in the forums for players to create their own to help other players out with.

We look for feedback on how well we've put our quests and areas together in beta so that we know if something is just challenging enough or if it's too vague for people to know what they should be doing next. This feedback is taken to the team from both internal testing and from the actual beta (when that happens) so we can better the experience overall.

I don't have any worries that both the game design itself and other players will be able to help you out when the time comes. It should be a great adventure.

Your legs are short. You can't possibly get far.

I'm more the explorer type myself. Give me a good idea of where I'm going, and if I discover a few extra things along the way and get off course, that's A-ok by me. I'll still get where I'm going anyway.

Wasn't it posted somewhere that there wouldn't be a public beta of WotLK?

We haven't said what we have planned as of yet.

I don't think there is any reason to accuse someone of being lazy. I think we're getting into differences in playstyle here. Some people would much rather discover everything on their own or with the help of friends. Others would rather skip the story and go straight to "what do I need to kill?". Some are a mixture between the two.

I admit it, I have even called the Infocom help line when trying to get past the grues.

Silly, you don’t need to worry about Grues. Your a candle, a lit candle at that, and Grues hate light, so your safe. :D

Edit: Unless they have a watergun, baloon, Sprinkler, ect... then your kinda out of luck.

I sleep better at night knowing this. ;)

Ime sure, but this begs a question. How do you sleep with your head on fire?

There are just some things people are better off not knowing.

LOL, further proof that the CMs and other Blizz employees must play on some super ultra fantasy server where everyone is just so nice and helpful and you never have to wait to find a group or a little help with anything. Try playing as an toon on your public servers then try and make that statement.

Or just proof that we have friends, guildmates, and are generally pretty good at talking to other people in game. :)

We play on public realms the same as anyone else.

I have always wondered, but I am not sure. I am not sure if I were in your position if i would tell it, but Can you tell your guildmates, or anyone that you are a CM or that you work for Blizz? I dont know weather your contract with Blizz would allow for that. Even if it did, I would see why you wouldn’t want to. People think you have the uber power over stuff in game, and would of course ask for things (Granted not everyone but some people). I know ya don’t have that kind of power, but that’s just because I work in software development.

Edit: May be a little nosie, but I just wanted to know what kinda restrictions CM's are put under.

The fewer that know who we are, the better. It allows for us to play the game the same as anyone else and observe current trends and playstyles.

OMG. They're watching us! I'll just act normal...

Then I'll know for sure it's all an act!

I'd like to quote the wise Bobby McFerrin when he said, "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

How much of an explorer are you really?

Have you taken the swim all around both large continents? Tried to climb up out of the water where you could to see how far in you could get?

Am I the only one that was hoping for some lonly NPC on some distant shore with a unique quest?....

/cry

I've done plenty of swimming. Wandered into caves... some I probably shouldn't have. Attacked things... I probably shouldn't have. Died my way to new areas just to see them and then promptly died again because I aggroed something I couldn't kill.

It's fun. I still go back to areas I haven't been in for awhile just to rediscover them.
