True Story about tanks

I know I'm not the best tank in the world, but I've had no problem with anything up to Mana Tombs so far. But last night during a Slave Pens run I had a fire mage constantly pull aggro from me. It got so bad that I no longer even tried to get aggro back from him. About a 3rd of the way in he says "finally, ok I'll slow down now".

I looked at swstats and saw that he had 100 more dmg than me. This scrub was pulling aggro becuase he was upset my aoe tanking was out dpsing him. I apologized to the others in the group, said I couldn't do my job with him, left the party and logged to cool down.

I'll still tank, he's on my iggy list. But it's crap like this that makes tanks shy of pugs.

It wasn't until I began playing the role of a tank that I noticed all the "funny" little things people do in groups that aren't always optimal. I'm usually pretty tolerant, and try to find diplomatic ways to correct problems, but unfortunately some people aren't intimately familiar working cohesively with each member of the group. If I start to get frustrated, I just try and remember how little I knew when I was first running dungeons a few years back -- it's easy to forget such things.

I do hear you though, but keep in mind it only makes you better at your role when you're on your feet compensating for issues created by others.

So once you're used to tanking for terrible groups it makes you better at tanking for unterrible groups? That's fair.

Mistakes still occur in good groups and raids, friend.

This assumes that only the tank has a "top down" view of the groups they are in, being able to see mistakes and problems, and I think this assessment is false. Anyone who leads groups or raids can see these mistakes, not just the tank.

I realize that you're giving your anecdotal evidence showing when *you* realized the chances for optimization, but I'm just trying to make it known that tanks aren't always the leaders, and good leaders, from the frontlines or the back, will always be able to see the entire picture.

I don't agree that my post assumes your conclusion, simply because I stated, "It wasn't until I began playing the role of a tank that I noticed all the "funny" little things people do in groups that aren't always optimal." That indicates only that it wasn't until I began tanking that I gained a "top down" view of the group.

I do agree with you that anyone is capable of being a leader and seeing a "top down" view.

one other thing Drysc. Please lessen the cooldown to challenging shot so that prot spec warriors can do a better job at AOE tanking. Maybe place a talent in the prot tree for warriors that helps them grab a group easier.
Increase the threat to T-clap, a loud obnoxious fart..... something dude.

/end thread hi-jack.

I'll let Drysc know.
