I'v been playing MMOs for some time now. Everyone used to refer to there characters as chars or PCs. Nobody referred to there character as toons till 2003. that happens to be the same year Toontown came out.
Anytime someone refers to there "toon" I immediately think of some 7 year old scrubing it up on toontown.

It used to annoy me when people would say toon, but then I realized that I knew what they meant so it really didn't matter.
