Title says it all really - I'm stuck 'in combat' even though I'm not in combat with anything and not near anyone or anything that is.

That means I can't eat/drink and my health doesnt regen. I can mount or catch a flight and I can't log out properly. It's been like it for 5-10 mins now, and I'm sat at the top of the tower in the inn in Shadowmoon Valley. If theres something up there in combat with me I'd like to know what.

It's not the first time I've been tagged 'in combat' when I'm not but this is definately the worst one. I can't really do anything now.

It's not an uncommon occurrence to become effectively "stuck" in perpetual combat; it's happened to me quite frequently. If you've the ability, I would suggest hearthing to your home location or simply moving out of the zone in as easy a manner as possible. In most situations, establishing a fair distance between your character and the targeting mob will remove the combat flag; however, if this proves ineffective, use the infamous Alt-F4 functionality to remove yourself from the game entirely.

Let me know how this works. :)

Q u o t e:
Hearthing works, and so does dieing. However, exiting the game does not.

Leaving the game through the Alt-F4 functionality satisfies (or mimics) a character log-out after a certain period of time; a mob will de-"aggro" should its target disappear from the corporeal world. As mentioned, though, strictly exiting the game itself will not immediately cause one's character to log out—this takes time. If, for whatever reason, you log back into the game too quickly, it's quite possible that the phantom mob will still retain you as its target.

Q u o t e:
But what is the point of leaving the area?

Leaving the area serves the same purpose, as a mob will de-"aggro" once its target migrates past a certain distance. This suggestion, as well as the above, are merely methods by which to drop combat. :)

May I ask where, specifically, you experience this around Shadowmoon Village? I only ask, as your character might be gaining the attention of one of the spawning infernals. Next time this happens, try attacking a nearby target to see if it alleviates the situation.
