Custom resolution in full screen?

Hello everyone. Normally, I run the game in the maximum resolution, 1680x1050 (I use a 20" iMac). However, in other games, I've noticed that reducing the resolution to 1440x900 provides a noticeable boost in framerate, and a negligible difference in picture quality. Unfortunately, 1440x900 is not a default resolution listed in the video options, so I tried editing the line

SET gxResolution "1680x1050"

in the World of Warcraft/WTF/config.wtf file to read

SET gxResolution "1440x900"

But when I start up the game (in fullscreen of course) it reverts to 800x600.

What am I doing wrong? How can I get the game to run at 1440x900 while in fullscreen?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Tramezzina,

Do you have the 1440x900 resolution option in Apple > System Preferences > Display? World of Warcraft will only show resolutions that are supported by the operating system. Try changing your desktop to 1440x900 (if available), delete the config.wtf file in the World of Warcraft > WTF folder, and then load up the game.

Tramezzina,

You might want to consult your Mac manual or contact Apple. I'd imagine the 1440x900 resolution should be supported for your iMac. 1680x1050 is the native resolution, however, and running in that should be fine.

What kind of issues are you running into with your iMac and World of Warcraft? Maybe there's another setting change you can make to help the performance.

Tramezzina,

What settings have you changed so far? I'd suggest keeping Multisampling at x1 and disabling Full-Screen Glow Effect and Smooth Mouse. Keeping Terrain Distance and Terrain Filtering at lowest settings can help as well.

Of course, you can play with these settings a little more than just keeping them off or at the lowest. These are the options that will generally increase/decrease frame rates.
