How do YOU pronounce "prot"?

So my girlfriend and I got into a heated discussion about how to pronounce the short term "prot" as in "protection paladin".

I'm convinced it is pronounced "prot" as in it rhymes with OAT, she's convinced it's pronounced "prot" as in rhymes with THOUGHT.

Which of us is right? Help a brother out here!

I've always pronounced it with the same vowel sounds as "bought" or "thought." It's how I've usually heard it too.
