Less trash in heroics

Did heroic sh last night and we must have killed over 200 mobs. It took forever even with a good tank and very few deaths.

Would less mobs be a better option and maybe balance it out with tougher boss fights? Not all instances need it but some really do (i.e. sh, crypts, bot, etc.)

Heroics are maybe harder than Kara but give less badges. Is all I am asking for is less trash mobs.

Anyone agree?

"Trash" mobs do serve a purpose in dungeons though and while they may not be your favorite part of the dungeon, we try and keep a good balance of it versus the rewards of the particular dungeon.

Shattered Halls may have a fair amount of trash, but I believe it can drop up to five badges of justice which is the most you can get from a heroic dungeon so it makes sense for it to be a challenge to get through.

What about trash in raid instances? You cannot tell me that 30-45 minutes of trash in between each boss is reasonable. You also have to consider all the re-clears if you wipe and the trash has re-spawned.

Remove like 50% of the trash from places like SSC/TK imo. You guys had BWL, Mag, Ony and Gruuls trash down perfect.

This was talked about at BlizzCon and in particular the Molten Core version 2.0 that had no trash, the video should still be out there somewhere if you want to check it out.

Of the dungeons you specified, Magtheridon, Onyxia, and Gruul's Lair are specific type of raid dungeons that are designed to be quick shots to the bosses and (hopefully) the loot.

For other raid dungeons, we generally shoot for a good balance of trash mobs to bosses but we do want these big epic dungeons to be challenging too. We never follow one static idea and continually aim to improve upon things and your suggestions are welcome here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=11122&sid=1

I'm glad to hear you liked Blackwing Lair too as I enjoyed a fair amount of time in there myself.

'"Trash" mobs do serve a purpose but I'm not going to tell you what it is.'

It's ok, you can admit you don't know either.

It was covered by one of our Lead Designers at BlizzCon so it'd be better seeing it directly from him instead of me just reiterating things.

I don't think that anyone is asking for no trash... just less trash. That said an arena where you went in a had boss fights would be epic.

Well the short runs like Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon are pretty much as quick as they will get.

I understand the point was for less trash and I can say that we continually aim to implement a good balance of it versus the rewards for each dungeon but obviously some areas will have more than others.

How about trimming some of the trash in Kara? Is that huge jungle of useless mobs between Curator and Aran really necessary?

But you basically get Illhoof and Aran at the same time, so you can see it as the amount of trash for two bosses. Netherspite and the Chess event aren't far beyond either.

So theoretically, you can make a dungeon with 10 straight hours' worth of trash as long as theres 10 hours' worth of bosses afterwards, assuming 1 hour of trash = 1 boss. I'd rather the trash and bosses be divided evenly if that's the case.

Wrong way to think IMO.

Thankfully we don't do anything like that. This is just one example from one dungeon, and generally speaking the trash is much more spread out.

Q u o t e:
Why isn't there more "trash" like the event in ZF where hundreds of trolls charge up at you? It's fun, it's challenging, and it's time consuming.

We aim to change things up and do a lot of different things when it comes to trash and dungeons. Have you tried Akil'zon in Zul'aman?

in those two example's the problem lies in thefact that if you clear one boss/event but not the other and suffer a wipe or return at a later date the trash connected to the boss you skipped is still there forcing you to waste time reclearing it for a boss your not stopping to kill anyway. You aren't foced to reclear Moroes trash if u wipe on curator but you ARE forced to reclear Netherspite's, Illhoof's or Aran's trash if you skip them and wipe on prince.

So if you don't skip certain bosses you get a bigger reward, sounds like you know what you've got to do.
