"The patch 1.13 was discarted, there is no point expecting it.
The 1.13 content was carried over BC"

So...?

UPDATE: Tseric blames the confusion on the patch NUMBERING
Q u o t e:

However, there will be a content patch before the expansion. It will simply not be called 1.13
Even tho the actual patch number is unimportant to the original thread's context, it was just a natural assumption. Then Tseric clears it up:
Q u o t e:
We will not be patching the original version of WoW any further.
[...]
What we are doing is upgrading the game client to 2.0. This is what happens in an expansion.
[...]
Therefore, patch 2.0 will be released shortly prior to the release of expansion boxes. There will be no patch 1.13.
So the original post by Eyonix " We'll be releasing a content patch prior to the release of the expansion." in response to a "Why play until the expansion?" thread (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=38084084&pageNo=1&sid=1). Was just a LIE to try to keep us paying till BC release, a lie that would remain hidden until January 2007 if I haven't posted this thread.

Makes more sense now!

Posting before Tseric adds his theoretical 3.5 cents.

I think it's that way due to inflation. 2 cents just don't have the purchasing power it used to.

Ok, let's do some critical thinking.

Did Eyonix refer to the content patch as 1.13?

The content patch is not 1.13. There will not be a 1.13, as the EU CM stated.

However, there will be a content patch before the expansion. It will simply not be called 1.13, which would be a continutation of content patches for WoW, pre-expansion. The content patch will be for the expansion, which will likely be dubbed 2.0.

The two statements quoted by the OP do not, in fact, conflict.

The core of the matter is one of labels.

This sentence makes my head explode.

Patch for the expansion, coming before the expansion.
Perhaps call it a "pre-patch"?
maybe assign a number like...er....1.13 to it?

Or Instad will the expansion itself be numberer 2.1?
With this coming patch being numbered 2.0?

You're playing with time and space here man, BE PRECISE!

The actual installation of expansion is not a patch.

Ok, one more time with feeling...

What it seems that people are expecting is another content patch that is independant of the expansion. More specifically, a lot of folks seem to be looking for a free content patch, should they choose not to purchase the expansion.

This is not happening. Therefore, the EU CM is correct in saying there will be no 1.13. We will not be patching the original version of WoW any further.

What we are doing is upgrading the game client to 2.0. This is what happens in an expansion.

The patch 2.0 is going to prepare for the expansion. We will release more specifics about what is in that at a later time. For now, consider it as the patch that allows players who don't have the expansion to keep playing with players who do. If we were to fully upgrade to expansion, players who did not get the expansion on release day would be shafted until such a time as they upgraded. We do not want this, so we have a prepatory patch which will bridge between the two versions of WoW.

Therefore, patch 2.0 will be released shortly prior to the release of expansion boxes. There will be no patch 1.13.

The answer is right there in front of you!
It is to save face.
Since the 2 CMs contradicted each other. Tseric can juggle words to his heart's content, but what remains is the spirit of what the CMs said. Yeah, Eyonix never SAID 1.13, but it was assumed. What the EU CM said was in spirit refering to a content patch prior to TBC.

No, it is because industry conventions of version numbers are being confused with peoples expectations. You admit yourself that people are assuming and talking about the "spirit" of the thing.

Picking nits here: By "shortly prior", do you mean in the near future ("shortly, prior"), or just before the expansion?

Just before the expansion.

So wait.

Eyo said that the next content patch could "occupy [our] holiday time quite well." He was talking about the 2.0 patch with new talents, etc. So unless he meant Valentine's Day, he was saying that the 2.0 patch should be out at least a month or two BEFORE BC hits shelves.

Is he wrong, Tseric?

Honestly, I don't even know anymore.

I might as well give myself a swirly at this point.

You folks really know how to make someone doubt themselves fiercely.

It's ok Tseric, just think of it this way:

ZOMG! IT'S TEH "It's 1.1, not 1.10!" ALL OVER AGAIN! SOMEONE MAKE IT STOP!

Yeah, 1.10 was fertile ground for hair-splitters and nit-pickers. That truly was the largest semantic debate I have ever seen.

I'm going to lock this due to possibly changing plans or information which I or others may not be clear on or which has changed very recently.

More specifically, because of the recently announced release time for January, this may or may not change the plan.

When we can put out a definitive, brass-tacks announcement about this, we will.
