These charges are considered "pending" which means that Blizzard has not actually taken the money yet and I also cannot file a formal fraud report, and the assumption is that Blizzard will eventually revert the pending charges, but in the meantime, we are unable to access that $1000+, which I find quite unacceptable.
When I called Blizzard customer support, they said they can't do anything about the pending charges, and when I asked to speak with a supervisor, the man I was speaking with simply hung up on me. I called back, and I got a recording saying that all of the customer service representatives were in a meeting, and currently when I call, it says that "all circuits are busy".
I found a thread regarding this issue (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=174684624&sid=1)
and it looks like I am definitely not the only person who has had this problem, and it has been going on a long time without and resolution from Blizzard. There is obviously a glitch in their system, and while my husband and I are fortunate enough to be able to absorb the temporary $1000 loss, I know that many other people would be broke or unable to pay important bills or buy food if $1000 was suddenly unavailable to them, and the pending charges can take more than a week to disappear.
It seems to me the only way to protect yourself from having this happen to you is to simply use game cards and not allow Blizzard to have your credit card information.
