Name change gone bad.

I spent $10 to change my 70 rogue's name so that I could use the name to start a new mage. The problem is that the name change went through, but it still says my old name is unavailable.

Is there like a 24-48 hour wait or something?

In the name change FAQ, you'll find that your old name is kept as unavailable until 90 days have passed.

What happens to my character's old name?

Once the name change is complete, your character's old name will be locked from use on the realm for 90 days. After that time, the old name can be claimed by anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to retain the use of that name you will have to reclaim it before anyone else does

Here's a real question; Why the hell should we have to pay to get something so simple as a name change?
So clearly obvious Blizzard could care less for their customers and that they are enjoying taking money from us in every possible way.

We've answered this question before. It's about making choices available to the community and yet doing it in a way that it isn't readily or easily abused. Those that want to make a name change will need to decide if they want to pay the fee for the change.

While there are always those that will try to find ways of abusing the system, we felt this service was something that many in the community wanted and have wanted for awhile. We wanted to make sure it was still accessible enough for anyone and yet still took some thought to making this change.
