I've seen some people list these as not being included in the patch notes when they were implemented, and we did that on purpose. We wanted it to be a pleasant surprise.
I know I've been enjoying not being the only one running around on a ghost ship. :)

I was there when MTV started. I'm not all THAT young and yet still young enough. ;) I graduated high school in 1990 so the 80s were where it was at.

So this was cool and all, but I still wonder why you guys have never gone back to some of the major cities and.. you know.. populated them as well. You go to Stormwind or Ironforge especially and there are TONS of empty houses there. Heck, Stormwind's Cathedral Square has the Argent Dawn headquarters building which is EMPTY! I can't believe in all the patches involving Argent Dawn content nothing was ever put there!
Is it possible we could do this someday? Sure. Is it likely any time soon? Not really. We're focused on working on patch 2.4 and of course the expansion right now. There are a lot of things we'd like to touch on in the old world, but we have to keep in mind whether the time investment is going to be worth it.
We of course love adding new character touches and activity where we can and Griftah is one such example of an NPC that has been able to be a bit more dynamic. We're always under the watchful eye of time though and so we need to be careful not to overextend ourselves.

They will be returning. There were some propulsion issues the Gnomish and Goblin engineers had to work out. They will be making a reappearance with patch 2.3.2.

As for the boats, there were other follow-up threads that explained there were issues with returning the NPCs to them, but if it's possible to get them back on sometime in the future, we will.
