OK let's check for overheating, then.
Open up your case and use some canned air to blow out all the accumulated dust inside, ensuring that all your fans are spinning properly (including your CPU, GPU, and motherboard fans). If you have a laptop, blow that air through all the vents.
Next, download and run the free temp-monitoring utility HWMonitor
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and sit on the loading screen for a few minutes if you can. After 5 minutes (or after it crashes), Alt+Tab out and check the temperature of your CPU & video card. Please post the readings here in Celsius, and include both the "Current" and "Max" readings.
