Outrageous GM and Botting

Today I bought an obsidium cleaver off the Horde AH and posted it on the neutral AH to trade it to my alliance character. Someone quickly bought it before my guildie could. This guy (<removed>) whispers another person bragging that he just picked up a obsidium cleaver through the use of his botting program. I open up a ticket to report it and the GM gives me the generic answer of "Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfill your request at this time. Though our goal is to resolve every issue as requested, certain actions are beyond the scope of the Game Master Department. We regret any inconvenience you may have been caused. "

I completely understand that I take a chance in trading items through the neutral AH, but this is outrageous that a guy can brag about using a bot to screw people over and nothing is being done about it. Its bad enough that people who actually herb have to compete with bots and blizzard cant even figure out how to catch them after all these years the game has been out. A guy who brags about using bots is not banned?

They no longer do this. It has not worked like this for awhile now.

I'm not sure where you got this information, Hathios. We do still take care of things like botting in "sweeps," generally after we've gathered sufficient information on the bot and/or cheats that may be involved in the activities. While when and how we accomplish these mass actions are not something I can freely discuss, they do still happen.

It sounds like the core of this issue is that a player happened to snag an item at a good deal. Whether this was by sheer luck, a "bot," or an addon designed to find low priced items remains to be seen (and is something for our Game Masters to review, and not for my to share). In any case, returning the item is not something our Game Masters can assist with - the Auction House is a free market, and if you put an item up for a low price, then you're expecting and agreeing to sell that item at the price you listed. Players who attempt to use the auction houses as a means of item transfer should be aware that this is not the AH's intended function and as such may not provide the results you'd prefer.

If you feel a bot was involved, you're welcome to report it - but it is at that point that you will not be in a position to learn more about the outcome of your report. Our Game Masters cannot and will not inform you of any actions taken on another player. They will, however, forward on any relevant information to our team that investigates these sort of scenarios for investigation.

Rather than allow unfounded speculation to continue, I'll be locking this thread.
