Geforce GTX 460m Low FPS problems

Hi everyone first of all thank you for checking out my post and giving me some helpful information.

My PC specs

i7 quad core 1.8ghz
6gb of Ram
nvidia geforce gtx 460m 1.5gb memory

My problem....

As my understanding this card should be able to perform well with world of warcraft on "Ultra" settings, with a 1920X1080 resolution.

When I first installed the game I played and I was getting at least 40+ FPS in major cities sometimes up to 60...Now I get around 30+ in cities and 18 fps outside of cities....Now I know there are many MANY more textures to load when you are outside of a city because of grass foliage and longer view distances....

How ever this was not the case when i first installed the game...

I do have a theory though, As you all know, When you first install the game there are stages.....Download then Install then a "playable" Playable is the key word here....I have a belief that in this stage all of the extra graphics are not included at that point....It is just the bare minimum to play the game. I could see this as being a reason for some lower FPS but it should NOT be a drastic change .

I took a look at my GPU and its memory usage when im playing wow and the stats are included in a picture i took please find the attached.

I have read multiple posts about people running WOW with the same card getting constant 40+ FPS. I'm not sure why mine is not performing well. Wow is not a graphics intensive game as to my knowledge all of they technologies used are very old and before this card came out.

Another thing i should mention is that I installed VMWARE to work with linux as my internship requires it. Now this is NEVER RUNNING so memory is never being allocated but is there some way it could still be causing problems?

Also my RAM USAGE on IDLE with windows 7 is about 28% 1.3GB

Cdok,

The only way in which VMWare would be interfering would be if one of its services or processes were running in the background. You can open up Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) to check and make sure.

Check your VSYNC setting in game and see if it's been turned on. Disabling that may cause your framerate to go up.

Also, if you are still downloading game content then yes, you may see reduced performance until the client is fully updated.

Well you probably aren't going to get incredibly high framerates on Ultra with that setup. The CPU is pretty slow, and your videocard is good but its not top-quality. You might try selecting 'High' on the graphics slider and then selectively bumping up options 1 by 1 to find a balance that works well for you.

Cdok, you didn't initally indicate that you have a dynamically-changing CPU; you simply stated it was 1.8 GHz, which is on the slow end.

World of Warcraft is optimized for 2 cores, so anything beyond that will only add very slight improvements.

The 460 is a good card but again, you're using the mobile variant of it which means it will be less powerful than its desktop cousin.

I didn't say you had a weak system, but I think that 'Ultra' may be pushing it a bit too much.
