edit: why dont they need your pass? its because they know it already thats how they log into your account to move your toons when they get stuck, or other things. teh GMS be sneaky mon!

Actually, Lil, no, no we don't know it - no one here can see it, no one. THAT is why we'll never ask you for it, it's useless to us.

If we need to borrow an account to make any adjustments, WE simply don't need it :)

Leggion, welcome to WoW.

You may run across any number of variations ingame of people trying to trick you out of your information. RMT (real money trading) is a multi-Billion, yes - that's a B, dollar a year business and it's all done using stolen/fraudulent accounts and credit card fraud.

They have a vested interest in getting their hands on just as many accounts as they can. They use them to bot, to spam, to scam and to compromise other accounts.

Another thing to watch for is the real money for out of game items like timecards, pets, mounts from our store. THOSE ARE SCAMS. You may even initially get what was 'sold' to you for ingame gold, but that quickly disappears when the owner of the credit card they stole disputes the charge. Many newer players don't realize these are scams and fall prey to this particular one.

If you ever see anyone advertising this sort of thing or get whispers like this, immediately right-click their name in chat and a small popup appears letting you instantly report them.

Phishes are another thing you may get, emails (in or out of game) that may or may not look 'legit' - depending on their 'quality', but again, they'll try to send you to a site that isn't ours, or ask for information we never will - like your password.

All this is why we developed the authenticator to help our players add an extra layer of security to their accounts. I highly recommend them :) It's no substitute for good security habits, but it will help keep them out of your WoW account.
