Collectors Edition upgrade; need CE disks?

I've searched really as much as I could through all the questions I could find about this, but I have yet to see a definitive answer for my question specifically: If I were to get my CE key and apply it to my account, would I need the actual disks from the CE to download the game, or will I be able to download it from the website?
I won't have the item physically, seeing as a friend has it pre-ordered for me in a different part of the country, and I really REALLY don't want to have to spend an extra 40$ on top of the cost of the Collectors Edition to get my game functional on the first day.

Am I SOL, or will I be able to a) apply the key to my account and b) download the regular game from the WoW website as soon as my game is upgraded?

If you have the Key, I see no reason you couldn't upgrade your account.

At that point it should be able to be downloaded. There really isn't a difference in the program, the key just designates your account differently.
