Q u o t e:
Hello Tiffany,
Blizzard Entertainment recently received a request to change the e-mail address used to log in to the Battle.net account with the username [my old email here]. The e-mail address k***@gmail.com has been specified as the new username for this Battle.net account. An email has been sent to this new address containing a verification link to complete the change.
Once the new address has been verified, the e-mail address [my old email here] can no longer be used to log in to this Battle.net account or any World of Warcraft accounts merged with this Battle.net account.
If you did not initiate this request, please click here to contact the Blizzard Billing & Account Services team immediately.
Sincerely,

When I contacted Billing&Account services for Blizzard, the response I got went something like this:
Q u o t e:
Greetings,
Sorry to tell you this but that is a scam and not from us. If you replied to it or used links on it you may have given your personal information away or gotten a virus.
If you really want this to stop I would change the email on your account to an address that will never be given out. That way we are the only email you ever get on it.
Let me know if you have any questions.
We have recently seen an increase in phishing attempts which pose a real threat for account security. As a friendly reminder, many scams will ask you for your password, which is something Blizzard Entertainment will *NEVER* do.
You may wish to review the following links for more information on phishing emails:
- Types of Account Thefts: http://us.battle.net/security/types.html
- How to tell if the email you received is legitimate: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/30828
- Information concerning email scams, examples of phishing emails, and what to do in the event you have received a phishing email can be found on the Customer Service Forum here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=965511383
Add a Battle.net authenticator to the account and receive an exclusive Corehound pet! Information about this security device can be found here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/BLIZZARDAUTH.
If you feel you may have responded to a phishing email, and are unable to access the account, please contact Account & Technical Services. With proper verification our representatives may be able to assist you in recovering the account. Our contact information can be found at http://blizzard.com/support/article/cs.
NOTE: You will more then likely get a survey for each email I respond to. Including if I am asking for more information.
Regards,
Sidney S.

I took the GM's advice and changed the email address associated with my battle.net account. When I had finished, I checked my old email address to see if I got another of the emails like I had gotten originally.
I did, and here it is:

Same email. Same subject. Same body. Looks like it was a valid email to me.
Blizzard need to get with it. Lately, the responses I've been getting from GM's have been extremely sloppy responses.
First, one where they clearly did not read my ticket through before responding. I had to submit a new ticket with the same problem before the problem got solved, but it was definately not a 'player's fault' problem, which is the response I initially got.
Now I get a response from a GM who doesn't even ask for a forward of the email I received before simply brushing it off as a phishing email. He didn't see the email. He had no idea what it was. Clearly, he didn't even know that old email addresses received an email when a change is requested.
Blizzard, you need to get with the program and start paying attention. Stop being sloppy with your customer service work and start asking questions so you can help people for a change.
