Quest item

So I noticed the other day while I was on my bank toon that she could to the Cata pre-quests. So I did them, just for fun, on my bank toon. I'm now on "Subdoing the Elements" where you use the Cleansing Totem to explode the fire elementals. I didn't pay attention to the item on my main, cause I was serious about doing the quest on her. But on my bank toon, I zoomed in and actually paid attention to the effects. That thing looks awesome! A blue glowy totem with stars flying around the base and the totem looks like an axe with the horde symbol on it.
Here's my question, if I wanted to not turn in the quest on my bank toon, and keep the quest item just for vanity, could I do that? Or will these quests only be in game for a bit?

Well, you are more than welcome to try this, but I suspect all related materials will be going away. I really cannot give you a definite answer specifically for these - but that's very common with temporary/seasonal type items.
