Account locked suspicious activity?

I haven't logged into WoW on my laptop in a couple weeks, I normally use a desktop at home, and right now I'm at work on my laptop. I logged in fine last night at home. I also use a physical authenticator. I tried to log in a few minutes ago and it told me there was a change in my login habits and I needed to validate myself via email I would receive in a few minutes.

I received the email, it was legitimate as far as I can tell, and said my account was locked due to suspicious activity and that I needed to reset the password. I tried going to battle.net and logging in and it told me the service was unavailable. I copied/pasted the link from the email, it was on the battle.net domain and secure, so I reset the password through it. I can now log in to both battle.net and in game with no issues. My characters haven't been touched, nothing is missing, so I have ruled out being hacked.

I read about the call in authentication service yesterday but as far as I understood, this was optional. Is Blizzard now going to lock people out anytime they log on from a different location?

The security feature that locked your account is not the dial-in authenticator. The dial-in authenticator requires you to call and authenticate your login.

If this is the first time your account has been locked, chances are you won't see it again. While the location from where you are connecting from can trigger this lock, it will not be the only thing it looks for. Also keep in mind that, proxies 3G and satellite connections are not supported.

Unfortunately I don't have exact details regarding what caused your account to be locked. Should you continue to experience these locks, feel free to contact our billing and account services team. With additional account verification they help reduce the amount of times you get locked out.
