Question about race change and names

When you re-customize a character, I am under the impression that your old name, if you have changed it, will be unavailable for a period of time (90 days?). Is this correct? And if so, is it unavailable to the original owner as well?

To explain why I ask:

I am on an RP server, and the coming events of Cataclysm have given me the idea of making some big changes in some of my characters. Currently I have a Tauren Warrior and a Blood Elf Paladin. For story purposes, I would like the Blood Elf to die during the events of Cataclysm (doing my part to control the population), and I would like the Warrior to have found a new path and become a Paladin.

So the idea is to re-customize the Warrior to another race/name, then re-customize the Paladin to become a Tauren with the Warrior's old name. Is this possible?

Of course I know this is all dependent upon when re-customization becomes available for new race/class combos.

Paid name changes do indeed lock the name - and that's even to the original name holder. That's an automatic process that we cannot override.

Given what you are trying to do, it might be worthwhile to give our Billing department a call and see if there is a more elegant solution here. I can't guarantee they'll have more options for you, but it certainly cannot hurt to ask.
