Make it easy on yourself. Do the server transfer first, and go in-game on the character that gets moved. Log back out, and then perform your race change. Should be a nice and easy transition. :)

Just to reiterate this, it's important to avoid any unnecessary delays.

If you ever had two different transactions, it's ALWAYS best to log into the character between steps.
